Charas improvement?
« on: June 20, 2005, 07:46:44 AM »
every time i suggest an improvement...i get flamed.

I think charas could greatly benifit from the following things being added to the mainpage.

F.A.Q.'s for each of the rpgmaker programs supported... on basic operation and such. im sure some other people out there somewhere have already written faqs they wouldnt mind letting us host. It would really save on Forum space.

Tutorial section so that those of us who have already learned the tricks of the trade can submit text guides that tell you how to do some of the trickier things like a CMS or CBS or a Tag along party line... that way , once again, the forum wont fil up with the same repetitive questions.

I really wish the Compete resource uploader team would go back through and change the text on each of the Complete resources so that the more adequately describe the resources...making the search engine work exactly like it should.

Also i think it would be awesome if all the resources for the generators were put into a complete resources section like the other resources are...so we dont have to wait for new download packs or updates to get the new resources. I think if users could browse trhough the resources for the generators more easily, then they would be encouraged to submit resources themselves.

Finally... it seriously concerns me that some people have flamed me just for trying to improve charas. I wish the Moderators and users in the forums were more... compassionate and understanding...

i mean it is our love of rpg's that brings us here... so why flame someone for not reading the archived forums before asking a question...or for not wading through the ocean of resources in the complete resource section beforew asking if anyone has ever seen this resource.

Anyway, this is all just a prodigal son of charas trying to improve his old home... so dont stress too much.

You never got flamed in your  tutorial topic, people just didn't agree with you.

As for your ideas, the complete resource renaming is far too large of a task. Perhaps if more people came up and complained that they were having trouble searching for things it might be considered. Also, I'm thinking that maybe the stuff you've been searching for that haven't come up just aren't there in the first place. We don't have evreything, you know.

We have some adequate FAQs in the tutorials forum, and the benefit to having a forum for it is that it's much more managable and dynamic than simply having someone post a tutorial of whatever they want.

As for working on offline generator support, the whole program is being rewritten, so anything like what you are suggestion should probably wait until gary gets some more work done into Charas.EX.

Besides, there are other sites that have this kind of stuff. Charas isn't meant to be your full RPG Maker site. The forums have sections for everything, yes, but the Charas community is really based around graphics and the generators.

even better, we could have an advanced search engine, like google, so that  you could select which words youy DIDNT want to appear in the results.

like i wanted classic rpg style resources....
so i rule out entries with the words SONIC, DBZ, MEGAMAN, ect.

this is waaaay easier than rewriting all the entries.

ERRRRRRRR..... look, if you want a better search engine, go to another site, cuz, if you'd want it that way, it would be WAY TOO MUCH FRICKIN CODING! :yell:

anyways...i think its fine like how the compl. resources are now.

We appreciate all your suggestions, Kadeity, but none of them are really neccesary to make the site better, or they would take too much time to save too little. I think Charas is fine as it is.

I've waded through nearly all of the resources on Charas. If I can be bothered, so can you. After all, if everyone typing in 'hero' came up with the perfect main hero charset, we'd all have the same main character! A far better idea is to take some time looking through the complete resources, and save everything you like onto your computer. That way you can merely search your computer for the appropriate resource whenever you need one.

It's not really needed. I think you're the first person I've ever seen complain.

We do, and the general consensus is that it's not needed.
