Again, this is about Underground rap, not pop rap.

Are you people stupid? This is NOT rap is it Hip Hop. Did you read  what was posted?

Go listen to some underground then tell me you hate it.

If you still just hate it then you just hate hearing curret day issues, jazz, beats that aren ot made by a machine, and the root of rock.
All Underground isn't even all lyrics. Like this one song that just keeps saying
"do you see the pride of the panther as she nurtures her young in the concrete jungle" I'm sure you can all understand what that means.

Hell Even rock developed from underground hip hop when it wasn't called underground.

How can you not like jazz with a poetry verses? With a meaning that deals with issues we have as humans?

I promise some people are so narrow minded. You can hate rap, I cant stand the bullshit. No one cares about how much money someone has or all the b!tch3s they get.

Underground can be very political, some makes you want to dance in a crazy way, and some will make you question if there's a god.

I know a lot fo you will never try it before you kick it, you're just lazy and sad that way.

Maybe itīs the lyrics theme.

I just canīt like it. Xcept for Eminem, but just because heīs funny.

And now you want to kick my a$$.

No you're still missing what I'm talking about here.

You mean, leack thereof.

And I would be able to tell you I hate it after listening to it. I write more complex lyrics in my social studies notes.

Underground music rocks. Hip Hop is grand. I love aussie hip hop, especially the Hilltop Hoods and Koolism.

only hip hop I listen to is Saul Williams, but I like some other stuff. I absolutely hate mainstream rap though.

If you consider Rage against the machine... then that too.

Quote

Talk to strangers By Saul Williams:

Nah, I wasn't raised at gun-point and I've read too many books. To distract me from the mirror when unhappy with my looks. And I ain't got proper diction for the makings of a thug, though I grew up in the ghetto and my niggas all sold drugs. And though that may validate me for a spot on MTV or get me all the airplay that my bank account would need, I was hoping to invest in a lesson that I learned when I thought this fool would jump me just because it was my turn.

I went to an open space, 'cause I knew he wouldn't do it if somebody there could see him or somebody else might prove it. And maybe, in your mind, it may seem I got punked out. 'Cause I walked a narrow path and then went and changed my route. But that openness exposed me to a truth I couldn't find in the clenched fist of my ego or confines of my mind, or the hippness of my swagger, or the swagger in my step, or the scowl of my grimace, or the meanness of my rep. 'Cause we represent a truth, son, the changes by the hour. And, when you open to it, vulnerability is power. And in that shifting form you'll find a truth that doesn't change. And that truth's living proof of the fact that God is strange.

Talk to strangers, when family fails and friends lead you astray, when Buddha laughs, and Jesus weeps, and it turns out God is gay. 'Cause angels and messiahs, love, can come in many forms: in the hallways of your projects, or the fat girl in your dorm. And when you finally take the time to see what they're about and, perhaps, you find them lonely or their wisdom trips you out, you'll find the spot where cycles end, You're back where you began. But come this time around, you'll have someone to hold your hand who prays for you, who's there for you, who sends you love and light, exposes you to parts of you that you once tried to fight. But come this time around you'll choose to walk a different path. You'll embrace what you turned away and cry at what you laughed. 'Cause that's the only way we're gonna make it through this storm, where ignorance is common sense and senselessness the norm. And flags wave high above the truth and the two never touch. And stolen goods are overpriced. And freedom costs too much. And no one seems to recognize the symbols come to life: the bitten apple on the screen. And Jesus had a wife. And she was his messiah, like that stranger may be yours, who holds the subtle knife that carves through worlds like magic doors. And that's what I've been looking for, the bridge from then to now. 'Was watching BET, like , "What the ****, son? This is foul". But that square box don't represent the sphere that we live in. The earth is not a flat screen. I ain't trying to fit in. But this ain't for the underground. This, here, is for the sun. A seed a stranger gave to me and planted on my tongue. And, when I look at you, I know I'm not the only one. As a great man once said, "There's nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come."

Someone fix the Quote Bug, please.

Mainstream Rap sucks. I think that's something we can all agree on (with exceptions, of course). The Underground stuff is definately much better, but I still don't care for it. It's not because I'm prejudiced against any type of R&B/Hip-Hop/whatever-the-heell-it-is, but I just don't like some of the songs I've heard that are described as "underground hip-hop". But I do appreciate the thought going into it - with modern-day rock, all you need is a single guitar riff and some random words, and BAM you have a song, and Pop.... I don't wanna even go there. But, as Smo said, the underground Hip-Hop stuff is like poetry with music, which is cool (On the other hand, mainstream rap is Crap without the "C").

I like to give every genre a chance. Even Rap. My brother was into some funky ****, he would make a mix, and on it would be Eminem, Chevelle, Godsmack, 50 cent, Run DMC, Linkin Park, and then a random band. My point is, don't be so close minded. Mainstream is for publicity and so the big wigs in the music business can make a quick buck. You have to look for real music, while being open to new and old ideas.

Well I like Gorillaz, though I can't say I've heard much of the other bands you listed.

Someone kill Missy Elliot now. Before it's too late.
