The Burning Grail
« on: March 26, 2006, 01:36:47 PM »
STORY
In a post-apocalyptic world survivors of mankind live in wasteland and ruined cities. The only law in such a chaotic society is a military group calling themselves 'The Crusaders'. The organisation fight against 'demons' (that's how they call mutated radiation victims) and rebeling 'heretics'. All the opposition are unmercifully burned by a special squad of 'executioners'. The primary goal of crusaders is to discover 'The Burning Grail' which was lost long time ago, the ultimate weapon against their foes.

The main hero Vick is one of the crusaders. He lives in the headquarters with his sister and is quite devoted to his duty. One day during the ordinary scout mission Vick discovers something shocking that forces him to quit The Crusaders and join the forces with his former enemies...

GAMEPLAY
The game itself is very similar to Riviera on GBA. A single click of directional button sends the hero to the other map, comments on object, etc:

BATTLES
The battle system is based on items. During the adventure you get a certain number of weapons which you can use in battles like items. For example, if you have 5 sniper rifles it means that you can use it 5 times and then it expires. If you are short on items you can always go for unarmed combat:

OTHER FEATURES
Custom message box is twice as small as default. There are also speech bubbles that indicate the person who is speaking:

For every killed enemy you get skill points that can be spend at the skill section. SP here stands for Skill Points where the first number is available points by now and the second - all the skill points you've earned so far:

NOTES
The game will be quite short, max 2-3 hours of gameplay so I'm not sure if I should make a demo version too. A full version will be finished in 3-4 weeks anyway.

Please, feel free to comment.

Wow, with the pics you've shown it looks pretty neato. I personally liked Riviera so this looks like a great RPG to me, good luck with it :)

Looks really great!
I like the post-destruction story and the interesting battle set-up.  Though personally I didn't like Riviera for that exact thing you're using.  Everything feels sort of linear, as in you can't even look around for stuff, any 'secrets' pop-up on the screen.

I've thought many times of making a game like this, not to be fun, but just to be different. Though, I bored the hell outta myself just trying to think of ways to add excitement to it, so I quit. I'll enjoy trying out yours.

Does that mean that you won't be able to walk around on the map really? All you would do is look at the map, and then choose which dirrection to go? I'm a bit confused :p

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

I like the Idea of the battles but it need somthing else.Since if you run out of ammo then your stuck and are perbley going to die. I'd try adding more skills so that I wouldn't get bored so easy.
Like if someone has a beam saber then they could use that as long as they have some kind of enregy (Like a power gem or something.) which would act like MP.That's just a idea do whatever you want it's your game.

Yeah, you got it right. It's a bit unusual in RPGs though.

Well, you can always go for the unarmed skill. Also I'll try to adjust everything that it would be hard to run out of items. There'll be various optional places loaded with weapons and stuff.

The only thing that makes me feel discouraged to try this game is the movement system and the short gameplay time. If you could try something like this with a different game later on without those two problems, I'm sure it'd be one of the best games on charas.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. That short amount of gameplay means I won't be able to bond with the characters at all. And not walking seems kinda limiting. No wait, incredibly limiting.

However. your ammo system rox sox so well done with that.
