Half-Life
« on: June 01, 2006, 11:21:12 PM »
This is an open, general discussion thread for the Half-Life games. I'm opening this to discuss anything from mod news to story discussions to little facts that are just fun to look into. Sure, it's all over the internet, but why not have a bit of fun here?
For starters: http://www.hl2world.com/hl2localization/us_gman03.wav
This is a sound file of the GMan talking to you that isn't found in the game, but was originally created for the game.
This is the inside of the GMan's briefcase in HL1:

That's all I felt like putting in for now, please add anything interesting that you may find. :)

Heh, in HL1 I was surprised that hitting the GMan with a crowbar gives off the same sound effect as if you where whacking at something made of metal! o_0 There can be two explanations for this:

1) The developers did that because you can't get to him without cheating anyway.

Or

2) GMan is a robot.

I'm pretty sure it's the second one.

You know what's really funny? In one build of the game (don't ask me which one, I couldn't tell you), attacking the GMan played the sound of breaking glass, giving some people the impression that the G stood for Glass.
Glass Man...
Mega Man, anyone?

For anyone who's interested: http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/halflife/hluplink.exe.html
That's the demo for Half-Life. It contains a level not found in the actual game, and it's pretty fun (there's even a drowning glitch, try and find it!).

I've never played half life. I know there's tons of skins for it though.  What the basic thing about it?

Gman is awesome. Every time you see him IRL (in the game, as opposed to on a TV or a monitor) it just adds that 'he's watching' feeling.

Also, let us keep an eye out for: Black Mesa, the HL1 remake with HL2 graphics; SvenCoop, the mod which has a snazzy looking Gordon Freeman model; and HalfLife 2 Episode 1 what came out yesterday over Steam. I need to buy it from instore. :|

Right. I was hoping that this wouldn't happen, but the topic kinda died...
So...
Topic Kick!
The G-Man actually shows up TWICE before anything even happens in Half-Life, suggesting that he planned the whole thing. Also, for those of you who downloaded Half-Life: Uplink, did you find the shortcut around the tunnel system? I guess I should have mentioned that a few posts ago, huh? Well, both glitches occured during my first run through the demo, and it seems as if the game wasn't tested with players like me in mind (the kind who enjoy exploring the levels using clever jumping and stuff). For your viewing pleasure (and to get a grasp on the story if you haven't played the games), here's a download link for Half-Life Done Quick and a Google Video of Half-Life 2 Done Quick.

You know, for some reason, ever since I knew he was called GMan, I can't help but think on him as the Google Man.

I mean, he's everywere, seems to know everything that is going on, and screws you periodically.
