Question about GBA flash cards
« on: June 17, 2006, 04:44:40 PM »
uhm... do they really play ROMs? Item descriptions online arent very specific... thats basically what I get from them, but meh.

And if so, what file types? .gba, .gb, .gbc, etc?

I'll just tell you what you want to hear, they play commercial games.
and...homebrew games. :vict:

Edit: Most flash cards suck big big balls, there's a website that tells you which ones own and which ones s-diddly-uck. I forgot the name of thise site, I'll find it again someday. :vict:

Edit: Found it. I have this one kinda cost much but it's worth it for one if the flash card doesn't work for you they'll replace it for up to a year. They do refunds as well.

I'd wait for a fully working DS flash card works out, mainly because you could use a GBA slot for holding data, (Can't remember how much size those suckers hold...) AND it could probably use a flashcard in the DS slot, which is at least another gig, concidering most DS games are about 512mb to 1 gb. Not to mention the higher specs on a DS, and button count, could make a whole lot more game systems compatable.. Such as sega genesis and SNES, and dare I say, maybe even nintendo 64... Portable Majora's mask.. *Drools*

Even though they are probably going to be alot more expensive, I bet a DS one would be better in all standards...

Man <.< DS games aren't THAT huge.
I downloaded 50 ds roms and the total space was 650 MB
There's one good ds flash card. I heard about it from a none bias source. I'll find the site again someday.

That would be file compression, most rom files have it major, but the actual flash cards (Which is what DS uses, flash memory, (no more internal batteries keeping the ram on for saves.) The only rom type file I have seen that isn't subbject to major compression would be v64 files, which maintain there 8-64 mb memmory.

The actual cards that nintendo uses are 512-1024mb.
Which a Gig of memmory can hold how many SNES roms?

: )

Just wait for a good one to come out besides.

Pff. I'd just buy the games for my DS (and GBA games), and play the SNES and such other ones on my computer. I just don't care enough about Contra, Sonic and Knuckles, and Shaq-Fu to spend a couple hundred dollars on a Flash Card. You might, but I don't.

It's still much more convieniant to just pull out your ds and play final fantasy 4, 5, 6 and other great games... Plus you can play it just about anywhere....

Wow, think about pairing it up with the DS browser, download games then play them!

Commercial is rather broad... I read up on it, and it dosent specify about 64 ROMs... does it play them or no?

Edit: Is the info on the card re-writable as well?

I doubt it does now, but a DS could easily handle a nintendo 64 game... I guess it depends if someone is willing to write a emulator for it..

I have pokemon, mario cart, and Golden Sun on mine with other games. I don't think mine can play 64 games. o.O
