Bluhman: What mod is that where you can ask people to marry you? Is it a companion mod? I've been looking for a good one, but I haven't found one yet. I like other party members, but so far, I only have some idiot fanboy that started following me after becoming the grand champion of the arena. No matter how many times he dies, it seems like he comes back in a day or so...

I just got oblivion last week or so. I wasn't going to get it for a while cuz my graphics card wasn't good enough, but it just so happened that it broke and I had to upgrade to a radeon x1300.

So far I love the game, but there are some things that really bug me.

First off, fast travel, and markers, wtf. A big part of morrowind was going off and exploring. In obivion, you can warp to and from any city in the game, plus any other place that you have visited. Plus quests mark the exact spot you need to go to, you don't have to do any searching. Example, I accidently became a vampire, and I was looking for a cure, I had to find this lady on some river, I was expecting to search up and down the river for her, but no, there was a big red arrow pointing to where I needed to go.

The invisible walls. I thought morrowind was awesome in the aspect that you could litterally go wherever you wanted. In oblivion, you can go anywere in the game at anytime basically, but around cyrodiil, theres the invisible walls preventing you from going anywhere.

No levetation magic. I thought levetation magic was sweet. In morrowind, I played as a dragon race, and you could equip this enchantment that would add levetation to your character but drain some stuff like stanima, and you could basically fly (looked really funny if it wasn't in first person view though).

Not as many armor/body parts. In morrowind, there were many differant parts to armour, you had the cuirsis, then you had the shoulder peices, the arm peieces, gloves. etc. In oblivion, there are no shoulder peices to customize your armour, you can't where robes or cloaks over armour, the only 'extra' body slot to add stuff like glasses, capes, etc is the tail slot, so if your an argonian you can't wear stuff like that. In morrowind, there was a neck slot that was hardly ever used, and that was used for most of the extra stuff.

Beast races look to human. I liked it in morrowind that the beast races had a differant body stlye than human races.

Enviornment is too uniform. I don't like it how the wilderness is pretty much the same throughout oblivion. Its pretty much all green and forested.

And lastly, there aren't that many mods avalible for onlivion yet when it comes to things like armour and races and landmasses. Though, thats no fault to the game. I was going to try making some of my own races, weapons, armour, and quests, but I guess the software required to edit the nif moddels in oblivion aren't really avaible yet. At least thats what some guy told me on some oblivion forums.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. That's really the only true fault to the DOOM 3 graphics engine. Absolutely hate it, but something about my settings right now makes it less shiney. And I love mindless, chaotic killing, so the multiplayer is a blast. Anywhom, based on DB's quick comments on Oblivion, I feel let down before I even have it. Now I have hate for him. I'm disappointed in something I don't have yet that I wanted alot... Oh well, I still freakin' want it!!

Meh, its still a great game. Basically, it lost some good points from morrowind, but then it also improved on some things. For example, in morrowind, you could only do 3 attacks, basically unless you were moving around, you kept doing the same attack over and over and over again. In oblivion, if you keep pushing the attack button, you'll maybe do a slash from the right, then come back with a slash from the left, so thats a lot cooler.

I like the story more in oblivion. In morrowind, you spend the whole first part of the game just gathering info on stuff, I thought that was very boring. In oblivion, you start off by looking for someone, then you take back cities under enemy ciege, you protect other cities, you cut out spies, and cooler stuff.

The lock picking system is cool, plus you can break out of jail too if you have a lockpick.

The graphics are better.

There are deer and horses you can ride (note, you can't ride the deer, only the horses). And its kinda fun if an imperial soilder wants to arrest you, and you resist arrest and steal his horse and run away.

When you level up abilities such as blade or security or lockpicking or acrobatics, you actually get new abilites for your character, and thats pretty cool.

And theres a bunch of other cool things about the game that morrowind lacked. If it was a bad game, I wouldn't be playing it myself :)

Fast Travel: Eh, didn't bug me that much.

Invisible Walls: Well Cyrodill is the mainland. Unlike the island Morrowind, they can't just shove in an endless sea. So they had to use the walls.

Levitation: There was concern over lag due to towns mixed in with the rest of the world, so they made them seperate spells. Levitation would allow you to go into a town without going through the gates.

Armor: True, I guess, but not much of an annoyance for me either.

Beasts: Eh. I never play beasts anyway.

Environment: There are mods that try to change that.

Lack of New Armor Mods: This is because until recently, there was no known way if importing new armor that could conform and bend with the user's body. This meant that anything besides shields and helmets would not work properly because it needed to be linked to a skeleton. But there are now a few hackshawed ways of doing it, but those who can't find out how or can't do it the half-way, they can't make a full suit of armor until Bethesda releases a program to change .nif files into 3d files compatible with Oblivion body physics.

Yay! Positive notes to counteract the negatives! And I'm sure there'll be patches and mods and whatnot to address some of the issues. Undoubtedly, someone out there will want to put robes over their chain mail, and voila, moded! Mebe they'll but in some sort of natural barrier to replace the invisible wall sometime in the future. Like a really steep mountain. Mods and patches make everything better! Unless you've got the XBox 360 version... Then you'll just have to live with it.  :p

Plus side to Oblivion: You CAN level up!

Besides, the teleportation dealy isn't bad... it adds a realistic (probably) amount of hours when you go from point A to point B, depending on how far apart they are.

And it's a lot better than walking from Bruma to Bravil, having to deal with laggy forests for half an hour. I want action!

I would play it, but I need to upgrade my laptop before it'll be able to run. I've played all the others, just not this one, not yet.

I know a few months ago someone had a half-*** way of putting clothes on at the same time as armor, but it was kinda buggy...

The levelling system in Vanilla Oblivion sucks. I recommend AF's Levelling Mod.

Vanilla Oblivion simply refers to the original. Whenever anything is called Vanilla it refers to the plain, bland, boring version.

Vanilla Milkshakes however are delicious. I demand you try one.
