FaceSet Troubles
« on: September 09, 2006, 03:14:29 AM »
Hello! I'm not sure if this question has been posted yet, but as I was browsing through the forum, I couldn't find a question related. Unless I'm blind. But anyway, I'm making custom facesets for RPG maker 2003. I normally scan my pictures in PhotoShop and color them there and such. The problem is basically when I try to shrink the picture. It becomes pixelated and useless! I'm not too good with photoshop. In fact, I've never used it until now. but it has become a bit frustrating. I have these nice pictures but I have no idea how to shrink them down yadayadayada. I would appreciate some input! Thanks!

They have to be of REALLY good quality and colored in brush to shrink right.

Thanks much for the reply! I suppose I could always retrace the drawing so it doesn't have those icky pencil marks >.<

>.> maybe I can just color my drawing with colored pencils? Naw, that wouldn't work.  I just don't like using photoshop. I'm sure I would if I knew how. I will try to perk up the quality a bit. Hopefully the computer will decide to be nice to me.  Thanks !

Well, everything I draw is in pencil. I've never made anything with photoshop, coreldraw etc except a few wallpapers for RPG maker XP. What I was thinking was using trace paper and drawing over it in pen.  Anywho, I'm not sure if this would make a difference, but I'm sure it would take care of scrappy look to it. Plus my scanners kinda crappy hehe. Its an Epson Stylus. Noisy piece of crap, but it does the job.

You might just have to draw smaller ^.^

Simple. What you do is you put the faceset in photoshop, then you go to "Layer", and select "new", and click on "layer". On the right should be some tabs. Select "layers", and click on the blank layer. Then select the pencil tool and trace your face. Then delete the bottom layer by going to the layer tab, and dragging the layer "backround" to the trash can icon. You then have your face, that you can resize easily. Resize it, and then colour it.

If the face still looks messed up, then just draw the face a bit smaller on the paper, so you don't have to resize it as much.

Hope that helps.

Ok, i got the skeleton of the drawing now and so far everything looks good. Before I start coloring this, how do I switch this to 256 colors? From what I understand, facesets need to be in 256 colors..I think. The last picture I colored, I thought I had it in 256 colors, but for some reason, it looked..distorted. Any suggestions? Thanks guys, I really appreciate your help!

You go (in PhotoShop) Image->Mode->Indexed Colour, and click ok.
