Edit: I'm to over my head on what I'm wanting to do arent I?

Well, I'm relatively new to Rpg maker, but not new to getting in over my head. especially when I am trying to make these overly awesome mods for computer games and such, and failing miserably. just remember these things and you wont be in over your head.

1. take your time. Don't so everything at once. just pick one thing from your game that you want to make and work on that, and only on that. don't stray away from it. For example, for a few days, only work on the maps and chipsets, don't even bother to put events or make the charasets to go with it, only the chipsets. before you know it, you have a good portion of the maps for your game finished and most of the chipsets. then when you get the maps to a point to where you are happy with, then start on another aspect of the game, such as the charasets, or battle graphics, or one of those three million minigames that you want to make.

2. give yourself time. Working on a game for only an hour or so a day isn't going to get it done, you need to give yourself a good amount of time, like say, a weekend, or a day off if your working. and just stay focused on the game.

4. do not rush. If you have like fifty custom made animations that you want in your game, and you spent like three days on one, and you have 49 to go, do not rush, spend three days each on the other 49 too. if you have only like three awesome animations and the other forty seven suck because you rushed them, then what is the point of putting them in?

4. start to remove unecessary things from your game. I see that you have quite a hefty list of what you want in it. just spend like an hour or so, write all the features that you want, and just cross out the things that is not necessary for the game, or things that will get you in over your head (such as some of the minigames, or the build a house feature.) and after that, start to cross out the basic features that you might think is unecessary for your game. I will tell you right now, that even if you work hard, there is no way that you will get all those features that you have listed done, even in a reasonable amount of time.

and with the features, I would suggest that you make the actual game and plots and just finish with those before you start to add the special features of your game. add those last. Don't compromise your game because you spent a month trying to make a card game and spent no time on your story and now you don't want to make the main game anymore.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but that is quite a large list of features. I just have to point that out again. i'm not going to tell you what features that shouldn't be in the game and what should, thats your decision, so start figuring out what isn't necessary to be in the game, and your work load will dramatically decrease and you wont be so in over your head anymore.

Alright like I mentioned before the tavern is when all I had were Rtp, I'm still looking for a diff tileset for that....

The sketch with diff. characters the one's I'm using for sure are the 3 that are similar in uniform...I'll see what I can do to custumize them into charsets but again I'm not good at that.....

The castle throne room one, I've already edited it some...but still comment on it none the less....I also want it to be more round at the corners in some areas but havent found a tileset to fit like that....

I know I got the title showing twice...I'll fix it so its only on the top....

The frog character ummm not sure what to say.......

Farm
« Reply #17 on: December 10, 2006, 02:21:29 AM »

Well its a farm...Home on the upper left, storage on upper right, stable on lower left and chicken coop on lower right....

I used runblade's forest set to add the trees and I have to go check who made the farm set....just edited the two to get the map how I wanted it to be....

Edit: Big chicken coop actually should probably fix that or add goats then it wouldnt be a chicken coop...

neat.

Try adding a few smaller touches like butterflies , taller grasses, and flowers and vines and such. it will help with making the map look more alive.

eh never been good adding that stuff without it looking out of place but its something I'm going to do none the less...

and how's the shadow? It looks to square to me but I've yet to find something that would go...

I have'nt added any events to the tileset thats the only reason it lacks all that liveliness....

Nah, square shadows are fine.

If you could find a way to get the edges to be diagonal to the building, even better, as this emulates what the sun does to buildings realistically.

it looks fine as is though.

Why am I still seeing black squares?

I use IE by the way, so I'm guessing that's the reason?

Yeah, I'm talking about the pictures.

But don't worry about making them into attachments. That just takes up chara's space. I can go without seeing the screens; I'd probally just make rude comments on them anyways:p

Using the dark grass tile to make a shadow isn't how it was meant to be used. But it doesn't look bad. You may want to consider using pictures for shadows however. That way you can add texture to the rest of the grass.

Suggestion2: Add some shrubbery, flowers, bushes, etc. It'll add a lot of realism to the forest.

Other wise, decent map.

if you look through the Resources, there is several charasets there that are nothing but plants and such, and would make the job of adding shrubbery and things easier than just adding whatever is included in the chipset.

I forgot what they are called though.
