San Andreas/Rockstar Games style RPG?

Every time I play san andreas/bully I always think to myself "a simplified version of this is possible with rm2k+". An open ended game on rm2k isn't that unfeasible a game that focuses more on a more personal game play experience, where missions/quests are a plenty, and the player can take the time to do what they want (something which Sid Meir and Will Wright always aim for).
Some people have made platform games with RM2k, and just the other day I found an old site where someone was trying to make a Strategy/War game where the player would capture 'cities' to gain more reinforcements, the player being replaced by a 'regiment' of mercenaries. There are so many alternative possibilities that it is mind boggling; I've often thought about the idea of doing a political simulator with RM2k, or a trading game (perhaps a space trading game). Imagine replacing the player sprite with a 'space ship', where you would wander around the universe going to different planets, space stations, trading and battling space pirates... very similar to the game Elite, which at it's time was a landmark game (for more information on Elite, and I recommend it, go to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_(computer_game
) , or here to download it for free
http://www.iancgbell.clara.net/elite/
).
Can anyone point me in the direction of some alternative games made with RM2k? I want to start researching.
Love,
