Meh....I agree on the spank/hitting thing. A spank every now and then helps to discipline a child. 'Grounding' does nothing, really. I was spanked as a kid.

Still, there's a line between spankings and beatings--a big one. For example, spanking a kid when he crosses the line is okay. Smacking him and yelling when he messes up a fan isn't (happened to me).

In conclusion: spanking. Spare the rod and spoil the child. But you gotta explain to the kid WHY he was disciplined, otherwise it's senseless violence, and that'll make him a bully.

My parents have never used any form of violence on my borthers or me. They used the silent anger treatments. Plus my mum was explainging to me that she used to say to us "Don't you ever get mummy made, you don't want me to get mad'. Apparantly, if she ever got quiet and clenched her fist, we'd behave immediately.

I think I agree with a slap on the hand, and an explained reason as to why the child is in trouble...

Anywho.. I hear about 5 screaming kids a day at work... and I ain't still used to the ****.

I have two nephews. 1 and 3. But I only see them when I visit them in Texas. I am the youngest of my family (my older brother is 28) I don't know how to handle children because I am the youngest. Personally, I would ignore them. Yelling at them is the worst. It just makes it worse.
