A Poet's Mind at Work...
« on: January 24, 2007, 05:17:56 PM »
Well, hello one and all! Just thought I'd let everyone know that I am currently working on a manuscript of poetry to be put into a book in some form. I've had two of my poems published twice before and been advised by friends that I should take my collection and make it into a book, so that's what I've been working on for the past several months. These are all original works, so please don't borrow anything without asking. I wanted to share a few samples of the stuff I'm gonna put in it so here goes:

I call this one Beach Affair,

The wind blows o’er the sand like a lover’s first touch,
A rush, as of a new love felt from the warmth of the air –
Lover’s breath on our necks from a fount of passion
Within our chest,
The ocean embraces the shore, greeted as if returning from
A long and dangerous journey,
Sand dunes yearning, engorged in anticipation of a loving stroke
From the only one that can console them,
Their lover’s return to the shore only to depart again,
Present only for a short while yet leaving an impression
On the object of its affection,
A lasting heart’s place meant to last for all time from the very
Beginning of an affair that has taught others to yearn
For that one true lover that can touch them like no other,
Thus we return to bask in the glow of the sun which leads the
Wind to brush the shore along the sandy beach,
To be in the presence of the love affair meant for all time.

That’s it for now – tell me what you think about it…

Thanks - I try to incorporate that a lot in my works, along with irony, and just looking at things from a different view more than anything. I'll put some more stuff up here later...

Ooh, nice! I cringed when I read the title. Don't judge a member by their newness, I almost forgot that important lesson.

Love the poem, yes. I had to read it twice to see it all, which is a good thing. I look forward to more :)

Nice. And mebe it's just me, but I caught heavy back-drafts of innuendos. Sexual innuendos.

Mebe I'll try my hand at this one day, I hear that I'm a startlingly good writer (or at least startlingly good for the general impression that I give off).

Thanks for the compliments all - I really appreciate them. I'm not going to give intended impressions of anything I write as they are meant to be interpreted by the reader. I could simply tell you exactly what each poem is about or what inspired them, but that would defeat the purpose as well. You, as the reader, are meant to interpret it as you will and that is part of what makes art, art. I really appreciate all the opinions and different views - they mean a lot to me personally and I am thankful for each and every person that visits and/or leaves comments.

I have also decided to provide another example of my work in a different vein, so here goes:

I title this one Idiocity,

Fools around a table,
A thinking man's conversation,
A year of a half-an-hour;
Where does the time go?
A teacher's thought, a student's quest,
Where am I? What am i doing?
A convulsion, an explosion,
What's the cause of the question?
Am I going to be able,
To file in and out compensation?
A quest among the masses,
The mystery of a flower;
Does the mystic river flow?
A mystic forget-me-not, something to be blessed,
Amidst the rest,
Of the world.

That's it! In other news I'm about 75 pages into the manuscript that I am working on from typing out of a 1-inch binder that is overflowing from poems I've written over the years. I'd remembered that one of the top of my head, but the original date on it was from May 5th of 1996 - I was 5 days away from my 18th birthday, believe it or not. Now there's a trip down memory lane for you...

It would be cooler if they were both about drinking beer and listening to Mastodon. But I guess they're well written.

Try your hand at something more Epic, and less introspect-y, and Id be much more interested. But theyre both well written... I dont dislike.

For some reason these two remind of something from the OC.
