WTF? An RPG Comedy
« on: February 02, 2007, 10:23:44 PM »
This is CoolZidane, returned from the grave. A friend and I are also discussing a serious RPG, but in the meantime, I'm working on a comedic RPG called WTF? This game is a satire of RPGs (both popular and amateur).

I've posted this idea on Charas before, but the idea didn't take off. Now, I'm sticking with it. This game will be on RPG Maker 2003.

The plot:
Johnny, Frank, Earl,  and Janet, four ordinary people in a typical RPG town find themselves swept up in a quest to stop an evil villain named Karma from conquering/destroying/God knows what else with the world. In order to stop him, they must track down the Five Gems of World-Destructiony Power ("the hell do those do?") In this quest, they find themselves involved with other bizzarre and incredibly over-the-top problems, including Sephiroth, who is gathering an army of fanboys to help conquer the world.

It's a basic plot (and a weird one), but it's meant to be this kind of stupid stuff. That doesn't mean that clever humor won't be included. In fact, it may happen more often than you'd think.

Anywho, I will be doing the music for this game, as would be expected. I will also be doing the maps, so don't be surprised if they are piss-poor designs. Or is it intentional, perhaps to make a statement about rushing map design?

That's about all I have to say. Updates will come. Well, if you build it, that is.

Yeah. It was a game idea I had brought to Charas before, but I never got around to finishing it.

So not being amateur when you make a game makes you unpopular and if you used the program for awhile, its automatically good?

I don't personally assume this is what you mean but I am somewhat offended.

I understand what you meant but it sounds like something alot of people will complain about

By popular, he ment professional games such as Final Fantasy. By amature games, he means games made by us using RPG Maker. We are not professionals, we have no degree, so I see no reason why someone here would be insulted by being called an amature game maker.

I've decided where I'm going to end the first demo. I don't know when I will have the demo out, but it will be before the end of March.

I think this'd be better as a webcomic... but I think everything would be better as a webcomic >.> And besides, you'd be stealing my name then.

Sounds interesting. Sounds like it could be really really crappy, or then again you could pull it off. I'll reserve judgement.

A lot of people try to make comedy rpgs based off of cliches and other games, I haven't seen one that was decent yet. Hopefully yours is different.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

I'm very intrigued with this project. Any way I can help?

If you want, I could test it before the demo comes out, and add/remove stuff to it to make it better. You know, kinda like a passaround type of game project.

With this game, my goal is to parody RPGs, but, at the same time, tell a story. So, there are points (though not so much in the beginning) where the game actually becomes serious for a moment instead of just being joke after joke after joke.

On a side note, all the music for the demo is complete. There are 14 original tracks, with a few additional tracks by Nobuo (sp?) Uematsu (you'll see why when you play the game).
