DarkSwarm Alpha Project
« on: June 13, 2007, 04:40:51 PM »
Hello all,
I'm in the process of creating a RPG Game in Flash lite 2 utilizing the map tiles and character tiles created using this site and the Charas Generator.  Right now it is in its alpha alpha stage, but I am still looking for anyone interested in testing it or contributing to the project. When the game is finished, if will be a hybrid for allowing users on computers and Flash Lite 2 enabled mobile devices to play.

To be a little more detailed. Darkswarm is a turn-based Role-playing game being developed for the Flash Lite 2.0 mobile player. The game is being developed as a hybrid between mobile devices that support Flash Lite 2.0 and computers with Internet action and the Adobe Flash Player version 7 or higher.
For my Capstone requirements, I will need to have at least two main areas for the character to interact with it’s environment one being the town and the other the battle area such as a forest of graveyard area where the character will be able interact with non-playable characters (NPC) and fight monsters. The goal of the game is to have all the features of a working demo. Features such as the ability of the main character to able to gain experience from killing monsters as well as money and possibly some items the he or she will be able to sell in town to purchase better weapons and armor. Another feature to implement is allowing the main character to level up and add points to their attributers and purchase new skills and level up current skills.

For those that are interested the test site with the game can be found at:

http://www.pryzemedia.com/darkswarm/week11/

Right now the game is single player, but I have plans to greatly expand the game to become a MMORPG.  I have a simple forum linked to the site as well as e-mail for anyone who has some characters or map tiles that they wish to contribute to the project. as well as any errors or bugs. You can also post replys to this post as well.

Well, in paper this all sounds very nice, but I'll hold on before making comments until I actually try it.

MMORPGs can be cool, just don't draw too heavily from such games as AQ, Dragon Fable, and Runecrap. Those games suck.

Roland... Not that I'm defending runescape or anything (shudders) but are you seriously suggesting that if Runescape had never been invented and someone from charas made it suddenly, we wouldn't all join and hail them as a demi god?

By the way Zombre, You'll get more interest for this topic if you post some more game information into your first post.

The idea of runescape is excellent.

However, how it was made isn't very.... shall I say.... fun?

If someone here made it? Yeah, we'd join and praise him. I'd quit three days later, like I did with Gayscape. But I'm saying that making an mmo with such ridiculous names as Wally the Demonslayer and a Jesus figure named Zambalhaoo or whatever is not a good idea. Making a free, kinda in-depth game that is pretty n00b friendly(Runescape ain't) is.

Second.  Runescape is the example of a good idea executed by bad developers.  good graphics for a webpage based MMO, good MIDI's, terrible gameplay, pretty ok puzzles.
