A small game premise that popped into my head
« on: November 01, 2007, 04:00:47 AM »
My name is Skye. I have committed horrible crimes for which there is no excuse. I have stolen from many, I’ve hurt many more, and I’ve killed people deserving of second chances. I watched my family killed before my very eyes. My arms bound behind my back, my eyes held open as brigands on a mission of terror brutally beat my wife and daughter, and cut their limbs off for who knows what. They tried to kill me by slashing my left eye. They thought it was enough. I woke hours later, my eye blind and useless. Not finishing the job was their last mistake.

My name…is Skye. I have committed horrible crimes for which there is no excuse…And I will continue to do so until I have my vengeance!

If it sounds intriguing to anyone, I may run with it.

the only hole i see with this here premise....

his wife and daughter had their limbs cut off...But he had his eye slashed and the brigands assumed he would die...even though they maimed his family.

perhaps lose the maiming...make them die still, but have it a bit less brutal. this will emphasise and accentuate the brutality this dude commits in the name of vengeance.

Have them get their throats cut or something...And instead of blind him, make the brigands cut the protagonists blood too. And they leave him for dead. However in the pooling blood of his family it goes unnoticed that Skyes throat is not cut to the point of a mortal wound. His eye can still have a kickass scar from the torture that this brigands put him through for whatever reason.

Or whatever....it just seems silly that they would de-limb the wife and daughter only to give a flesh wound to the hero.

The premise could be used well though. Im seeing lots of blood and serial killer ninja type blood and batman like gameplay

go with this

Well, I was actually looking about that too. I found it to be kinda unnecessary...or I hoped it to be, I should say. But if it was to unfold more, the delimbing would be essential. The reason they didn't delimb him is A. carelessness, and B. They need the limbs of only women.

If this is gonna be an rpg, you're gonna have to find ways to introduce other playable characters. That might be hard with the whole 'one man's quest for vengeance' thing going on.

The CBS was going to have Character Summons, where you could summon other characters. If they are set on Attack, they'll use a special skill or magic spell. if set to Support, then they'll use an ability to support Skye (duh).

or if you wanted to add more characters you could just have them seeking vegenance for there families as well and they decide to team up because of there comman enemy. I like really dark theme games there good.

That's, no offense, a really stupid reason to do that.

I'm making this a one person CBS, that much is already decided.

But I'm thinking that his cursed eye is going to allow him to see spirits, maybe. Or I may stick with the party member summoning.

yeah i was only giving you an idea which i think the summoning idea is better i like it, seeing spirits that would be cool. would he asks the spirits to help or like demand them or a bit of both.

Hmm....I'm not really sure.
The story is still in the infant stages, truthfully. I really just now started to development. I just posted the premise for the hell of it. Didn't even plan to start a game with it. ^_^"

But I guess, it'll be a combination of the two.

Wow...I do have to say...It's dark.VERY dark. BUT it does sound interesting, and it sounds like a game that needs a CBS. (which I bet your making)
Also, you could probably make a good game with it, so If you wish, do make it into a game!
I hope you do good on it!

I'm still working on it, but it will include these things.

- T.R.A.N.C.E. (Temporary Rage And Non Ceasing Emotions)
-- This is a rare disase that forces a person to, at random points, revert to feral behavior, often acting with malice and prowess in their actions. Skye has trained his disase by putting himself in dangerous situations and, with a special medication, resisted the disease. The medicine, as he was told, was to counteract the effects of the disease. Using this medicine and his willpower, he was able to train his disease to remain dormant unless he is in times of great emotional durress (I.E. Heartbreak, Near Death, etc etc).

- Take your medicine!
-- In the game, you will have to take your medicine every day. If you do not, then TRANCE will overpower you after about four days without taking your meds. Days will go by slowly, of course, about as slowly as ES4: Oblivion, so it'll be kinda easy to forget. Each day you forget to take your medicine, it means you'll be able to start battle with the TRANCE at 25% intervals. In the fifth day, you will wake up in TRANCE, and you will not be able to do anything morally just ON PURPOSE, but you still can on accident.

- Good vs Evil
-- This game will hopefully feature a good vs evil type of system, like in the KOTOR Games, and Jade Empire. If you're a good person, then you will be able to learn certain techniques and meet certain spirit. The same applies if you're a bad person. Your actions and some dialogue choices will affect your rating. The ending will be determined if you are good or evil. You wont be able to be bad and then choose the good choice and instantly be a good guy. The ending depends on your behavior.

- Spirit Fusion
-- This is sorta like the Esper system in FFVI. When you find a person willing to bind their spirit to your Eye, they create a copy form. This copy form is known more commonly as a Spirit Form. This spirit will be with you on your quest and you will be able to "equip" it. Like in FFVI, it can teach different skills at different rates. Unlike in FFVI, you can sue said spells that you HAVEN'T mastered if the Spirit Form is equipped. Example: Dark Knight is equipped. It teaches Flare, Burst, Healra, and Anti. You can use these spells as long as the Spirit Form is equipped even if you have not mastered them. Depending if you are good or evil, then you can get seperate spirit forms, but there are some nonetheless that will join you no matter what your alignment.

- Day/Night system
-- I know this is a system promised by many but used by few. This will be a system that works even if you are indoors. If you are indoors when somplace closes you will be forced out UNLESS you are hidden from sight. Afetr that, you may stay in, but if you are seen, you will be kicked out and you wont be allowed back in for 24 hours.

- No normal items!
-- Unlike in most RPGs, there will not be any normal usable items. I say normal because you have a satchel of three items. Healing Potions, Spell Potions, and Anti Potions. You can hold thirty of each, and any time during the game, you can press 1, 2, or 3, and use the respective item. They can only be used on your turn in battle, and you can only use one item per turn.

Yeah, I know. Promises, promises. But this is really gonna be fun to make, I think.

There is more to the story, but I'll make a topic once my CBS is part of the way complete.
