Mystorium: The Rings of Agernon
« on: April 15, 2008, 07:42:38 AM »
I've only started working on the game, but I decided to make this thread as sort of a placeholder to put all of the updates and screenshots when I get them ready.

This page will only be text until I can get screenshots and eventually a demo up for download.

Just a little backstory to the game:

Ever since the Two-Hundred Year War ravaged the lands of Agernon, the world has never truly been the same. Despite this, the three continents of Agernon (Aeaea, Eurias, and Segarion) were unified under one king, King Lithys I. Under his leadership, the people began to rebuilt what once was a world hopelessly lost in the clutches of a needless war.

King Lithys I died at the age of eight six, and his son took the throne as King Lithys II. Unlike his father, King Lithys II had ulterior motives, and like a puppet, was being controlled by forces more powerful than even he, an ancient group known as The Black Council.

Wanting another war to subjugate the people and enslave them under singular global power as opposed to the individual governments that existed, The Black Council called for an event that would shake the very foundations of Agernon.

The capitol city of Aeaea, Western Viserus, is hit by a new weapon called The Fist Of Xan, which kills untold numbers of citizens and destroys much of the city. This attack is blamed upon Eurias and, still remembering the Two-Hundred Year War and the fued between Aeaea and Eurias, the citizens of Aeaea gather behind King Lithys II, swelling its army by the hundreds of thousands, as they gather to attack Eurias in retribution for the event falsely attributed to the kingdom of Eurias.

You live on the outskirts of Aeaea raising livestock when the attack happens. Soon you are visited by a mysterious man you know only as The Fiddler, and are thrown into the eye of the hurricane, where you will either save Agernon from another war and uncover the conspiracies by The Black Council, or you will fail and watch the world fall into global destruction.

Features (May change over time):

- Eight unique characters to play, each with unique abilities.
- MP3 music and ambiance as opposed to MIDI.
- Multiple side quests including repeatable Courier, Bodyguard, Bounty, and Acquisition jobs to earn extra money and experience.
- Four different storylines that run side-by-side with one another, with the ability to choose which one you want to do next.
- Your own home, with the ability to buy and earn extensions and items to add on.
- An arena, auction house, and mini-games.
- Multiple endings.

First off, honestly, I only see auction houses working out in a multiplayer game.  Second, literally that SAME EXACT story line has been used and abused beyond redemption.  If you can some how manage to make this game into something good, congradulations, but if not, well, honestly I'm not too surprised.

This isn't to say anything against you ofcourse, I'm just tired of the 'JOO GOTSTA SAVE DA WORLD FROM WARZ' story :\

...FF9?

I kinda agree with Dom about the plot though. It's exactly the same plot used by hundreds of other games. I kinda like the image of a fiddler appearing in scenes occasionally and this fiddle music playing quietly but other than that there's not much unique here.

However, if it's your first game or something, there's no real need to change it. Cliche' plots can make brilliant games if the characters and the music are right.

Although I might try something else, the auction house idea has been used in at least two RPGs that I know of, Final Fantasy 6 and Final Fantasy 9.

I highly doubt the same exact type of storyline has been used that much.

A king dying and a son takes a throne who is controlled by a group of conspirators who coax the new king into blowing up one of his own cities to jump start a new war to allow them, through the king, to globally dominate the world under one singular kingdom.

If you can find a game with "that SAME EXACT" storyline and post a link to it here on the thread, then I'll revamp the entire game.
