That was awesome. I'm not familiar with Weezer but that was a pretty good song.

But for all good and stuff they should just refer to that song as "the Internet song"

It was meh. For some reason it seemed like a merger of the Dani California vid with Where's Your Head At and Internet People. Odd, I know, but it was just intraweb stuff, although I chuckled at Daft Hands and Cats. Didn't mind the song though which is weird as I usually hate Weezer.

It pisses me off when people try to cross-media with internet fads. Every time I see the letters "OMG" on a television, I want to punch someone in the face. I saw the episode of South Park recently that was PRACTICALLY THE SAME THINGS AS THIS MUSIC VIDEO, and to be quite honest, it was painful to watch. South Park is known for cashing in on trends, and I don't know between the two of them which cashed in on this first, but either way, both of them were sickening to watch. Stay in your own damn media, that goes to Family Guy too, a once great show, that's amounted to nothing more than a terrible pile of ****, that lacks any humor what-so-ever.

That, and the song was boring.

Stop being so damn elitist. Yes, the internet is the most popular thing since sex was invented, and yes, as much as you hate it, everyone else is in on the secret. It's not as if there aren't already idiots on the internet, so I don't get why you think it's such a horrible thing that other forms of media reference the internet.

Much in the same way an art critic with a stick up his *** shouldn't freak out when he sees Dali's work being referenced in a cartoon, you shouldn't freak out when your precious internets gets referenced in a music video (Not to mention, who even watches MTV or VH1 anymore? Where else would you see this video BUT the internet?)

If you still watch MTV or VH1, you're a farking hippy.

And that part in South park was friggin awesome. Epic in proportions.

The only time when I get poked at something like this, is when they do shameless exploitation. I think this and the southpark thing and even family guy, passes as "just for the lulz"

But, per say, a news network goes ahead and starts using it for mere audience attraction, then i think that's bogus. Of course that is the main reason why the others are doing it, but it's also there for the lulz. News =/= lulz.

Point out where the music video "referenced" the internet.

It didn't IT *** RAPED IT. There wasn't a ten second period of that music video where it didn't show something based off youtube. It ceased being a referenced and started being a total cross-media venture. If you saw a cartoon with Dali, it's no big deal, just as if they would have thrown a picture of Pedobear in there randomly, but when the cartoon bases a fraction of it's episode on Pedobear or something else internet related, it becomes a cash in. They're cashing in on peoples interest, because if they do one thing pertaining to the internet, chances are they'll do it again somewhere, which is only a ****-ploy to attract audiences that wouldn't normally watch.

Listen to the song, the part you practically all criticized; the only thing you people enjoyed about the entire thing were the youtube cameos, and guess what, I guarantee that at least one of you will continue to keep an eye out on his videos just see if they ever make another similar effort. It's cashing in, it's no different then Guitar Hero II putting Trogdor in their game, it made the stupid and satirical internet people scream "Hooray, someone cares." And after that song, millions of before skeptical internet yokels began to take interest in the game series. Lining Red Octane's pockets with the cash of internet fad go-ers. Companies that employ cross-media "references" 9/10ths of the time are only cashing in on the low self-esteemed internet fools.

I'm not impressed with the video, simply because it's aimed at youtube users, and basically shows that Weezer is willing to bend over and take it for cash and popularity, even from the whiney emos/crybabies/weeabos/poopers/high-and-mighty-youtube-critics/pre-teens that browes youtube regularly enough to know all of those references. It'd be like me animating a popular band into one of my GIF's (Which I haven't made in forever.) just to make you guys like me more, only shows that I'm a sell out, and I lack the ability to make you guys like me otherwise. (Which it really seems this way to me.)

Oh, and even if you think I'm wrong on this Osmose, you'll never be able to change the way I view these sellout, overrated, horrid-sounding-losers. /self-righteousness

Yeah....

the thing is....with a music video, its the artists call as to wether or not they want to parody, satire, emulate, reference or @$$ rape anpother entity. I like ya Apex, but think you got your but tied in knots over nothing here. I have to agree with Osmose 1000%.

The Internet does not belong to you, and as such, your urge to punch things upon seeing "OMG"on TV is a bit unfounded. Do you get the Same Urge when you see Google Ad Banners for Streaming TV? Do you get this urge when you see TV characters graphically represented online? If not, then youre full of hypocracy with that statement.  But I dont want to attack you over this.

The fact of the matter is....

Art emulates Life, and Life emulates Art. Its inevetable, and resisting this pretty much shows a fear of change or progression. Im not saying you have to Like it, or even Embrace it....but you Do have to accept it.

Weezer has made a pretty effective strategy of satirizing pop culture in their videos in the past. When the buddy holly video came out, it really pushed them into the mainstream, strictly because of the buzz it created. It was seamlessly presented, and it made people wonder "How did they do that?" They took Pop culture from the past and used it to present their product in a way to market themselves.
And Despite  Having Drawn the current reference to pop culture from a different media then they did in the Buddy Holly Video, they Have really done nothing different. They took A Piece of Pop Culture (Albeit a slightly more modern one then 'happy days') and they used it to make an appealing product to stir up some hype.

When They did this with the Buddy Holly Video, they were obviously targetting 16-30 year olds. In 93, an 18to 25 year old probably grew up watching Happy Days, and would instantly relate to the Video, and leave it standing out in their memory. They would say at work/school to their friends "Hey, did you see that new video, the one made from old happy days clips?" and the marketing strategy is now a sucess.

When they do it today, they are targeting 16-30 year olds. The same process applies.  A 16 year old today has watched a million and one of these "Viral Videos" and can relate.

Sure, theyve drawn from the internet....but theyve Drawn from internet VIDEOS. to create a Music VIDEO....that....well...that I watch ONLINE.

Getting chapped over the use of materials in this video is as osmose said "elitist"
The Internet does not belong to anybody. TV can reference it. Movies Can too. Because holy crap, does the internet ever reference the hell out of other media.

I will discontinue my text wall for now, as I seem to have lost my point

If I come off as sounding upset, it's just the stress, I'm not pumping steam out of my ears.

No, I just don't buy into it is all, stuff like that doesn't impress me, just the opposite is all. If it works for them, great, their the ones bringing in millions, not me. I'm not saying what they're doing is stupid, because their capitalizing on it, I just don't like there methods, it seems like a cheap-shot cash in to me. Such as EA games, and the flood of Guitar video games as of recent, no effort, just putting on a familiar face to sell to people who like the eye candy and the image.

To Archem and ZeroKirby, I'd rather have 1000 meaningful posts that I put effort and thought into, than 4000-5000 shitty one liner posts that don't add anything to an argument/discussion other than your name appearing more in topics. Here's another radical opinion for people to disagree with me on...

Sorry, all I can do is blame stress for my actions and what I say, because I'm nothing more than a retarded dick-elitist. :P On a nice note: Thanks Gemini, for being mature in an argument, you're a pretty cool guy too.
