Dragon Fantasy II [Final Demo]
« on: August 30, 2008, 11:34:03 PM »

The Main Story:
It has been 100 years since the end of the first Dragon Fantasy. Veryl has been destroyed and the planet's original power has been restored. However, even the Crystal's could not destroy the power of the Dark Lord comletely. Instead, they destroyed the castle's outer shell and contained the vast power of Venaitura within a sphere of light.

But now...the skies once again are covered with a vast and expansive wave of darkness. The temple where the orb was contained had been breached and the power of Venaitura stolen! Using it's power, a fiend by the name of Emperor Xyan has opened a gateway to the Dark World and has called forth a plethora of demons to do his bidding.

You are the Hero's decendant. Having the blood of the legendary Hero who had defeated Veryl, the King of Zebon calls you and your allies to his chamber. He tells you of your duty, and thus you must embark on an epic quest in order to save your homelands from destruction once again!

Character Classes:

-Unlike in the first Dragon Fantasy where you had a pre-set party with specific classes, you are free to choose whomever you want your party to consist of from the beginning in this second installment. Your main character is ALWAYS the Hero class, but you may chose his/her gender and three other companions and their classes.-

The Hero
Info: The class that your main character is set as. He/she is named by you, and is also given a gender by you. The Hero is pretty well-rounded, and is able to cast a nice variety of Healing Spells, Damaging Spells, and Status Spells. His/Her stats are pretty even, and he/she does not fall short on many things.

The Knight
Bearing a strong ATK and DEF, the knight is the basic damage dealer. He cancast no magic, and has no MP, but he can dish out the damage against enemies using his physical attacks.  They bear high HP, but low INT.

The Mage
A class based soley around Black--or damaging--magics.  They learn the greatest ammount of Black Magic spells, and have
a high MP count.  They have a low DEF and ATK count, but make up for it in AGL and INT.

The Priest
The Priest is a class based around the art of White Magic; Magic which focuses on healing the wounded and curing the ill. They receive the greatest ammount of White Magic spells, and are also one of the fastest mages. They have a high MP, INT, and AGL count, but lack HP and DEF. A must have for any adventurer.

The Inflicter
Revolving mainly around inflicting hindering status-effects against the enemy, the Inflicter has no real abilities which directly
inflict any sort of damage. However, they have great AGL and MP, and learn boosting type spells earlier than any other class.

The Sage
Having access to both White and Black Magic spells, and bearing the highest INT count of all the mages, the Sage is a fairly diverse maigc user. However, it lacks a majority of the higher level spells from both areas, thus it must fall back on weaker spells as it makes progress. The sage has the highest INT and MP count, but lacks HP, AGL and DEF.

The Dark Knight
A fusion of both the Knight and Mage classes. The Dark Knight has access to a limited number of Black Magic spells,  but has a great ATK and DEF count. It is also one of the two fastest mage-type classes.

The Holy Knight
A fusion of both the Knight and Priest classes. The HolyKnight has access to a limited number of White Magic spells,  but has a great ATK and DEF count. It is also one of the two fastest mage-type classes.

The Berserker
A purely physcial-based class that has no mind of it's own.  Bearing the  absolute highest ATK count of all classes, the Berserker can break down some enemies in one fell swoop. They also bear a high HP count, but lack in DEF and AGL.

Your game looks identical to Kentona's game he made.   Same sprites and everything.

That's because he let me use them for my game. I thought they were great looking, and that it would be fun to work with Dragon Warrior IV's chipset and characters, so I went ahead and asked him if it was alright if I used the Dragon Warrior stuff he had from Hellion. He gave me the OK, and...here it is.

I gotta say, it's much better to use than the Final Fantasy 1 and Dragon Warrior Monster stuff I used for Dragon Fantasy 1. Much more variety, and it all looks better, too. Well...in my opinion it does. =P

That's cool man, because Hellion never getting finished made me a sad panda.   I will have to check this out when I get some time.

@Moosetroop: Well, you could've just came on and asked me what to do 'er something around that area. All you really had to do was just go South to a jut of land, park your ship, and make for your next destination. Er...well, it was easier for me, I suppose, 'cause I knew where everything was to already.

@Drakyith: Helling not gettin' finished, huh? I never heard of anythign like that. I'm sure Kentona is still working on it, isn't he? Or am I wrong about that. I know that he's gonna finish Hero's Realm before it if anything, though.

@A Forgotten Legend: Thanks. =B
And ha ha, let's hope not! I don't say it was THAT bad before, was it? In some ways, this game is even harder than the last.

And also, I'll have to add in this quick note:
In the final game (if it to ever see a release), the item's and spells shall all have a description. Yeah, they're lacking in this demo, but I plan to fix that in the future. Well, I already have, but none of you will see them untill the final game. =X
I just thought it'd be best to put 'em in there to stop confusion.

Just played it! You did a really great job in keeping all of the traditions of old Dragon Warrior games. A nice reminder of the good old days, also very fun!

Thank you, Muraiko, for downloading and playing the extended demo of Dragon Fantasy II. I'm very pleased with the fact that you were seemingly impressed by it, and I'm glad you gave my game a chance.  I hope that you will also give the final game a chance as well, as I think it will be much better! I'm going to try and include much more side quests and random side stories than in the first Dragon Fantasy, and I plan on explaining the history of the world in a more in-depth manner.

Also, a great thanks to you too, Felix.  I'm glad you think so.

Wow, I never even noticed that. Ha ha. I meant to have it as "INT", but I must have put DEF down again by mistake. Thanks for pointing that out! I'll go and finx it in a minute.

One problem I have is how I get confused on who's who in the party, just because no one has face sets. My suggestion is that if you don't want to have high-detail faces of them (or not just because that's against DW tradition...), then you could always just simply take one of their charaset pictures and past that in for thier facesets. That way, the player will be able to know who's in the team right away, instead of having to look at their names. That, and also I just find it nicer to be able to match faces with names.

But, if you didn't use facesets purposely, because dragon warrior games usually don't, then don't mind me...

Well yeah, the main reason I didn't really use Face Sets is because the majority of the Dragon Warrior/Quest series does not do so. I know it's not much of a reason for MY game not to have them to take away some of the confusion, but I decided to have it as such because I thought it would be a nice touch. I just didn't think it would FIT very well, you know?

I'll think about it, though! I've added item and spell descriptions, so who knows what I could end up doing next.
