Project Megambo [java]
« on: November 25, 2008, 05:03:27 AM »
Okay, I'm here to pitch the story idea for my teams game (Project Megambo). Megambo is not the name of the game, rather our project name for the game until we finalize the name and such.

What is Megambo?

Megambo is a third person, side scrolling, shooter programmed in java. It is a team project (Fox Bytes) with roughly 7 members from my college. It is mainly a learning experience for us, and thus it is not some super high quality game, just a little something that will hopefully be enjoyable. At the moment, we have most of the main systems in the game working (everything except for AI and some eye candy), but we hardly have any real content, and thats where you guys come in :)

Story:

In rough economic times, everyone is suffering and trying to make it by. You are an employee of a small fast food company known as Burger Warlord "Eat here or die". Desperate for customers, Buger Warlord comes up with a devious plan, wipe out all the competition. This is where you come in. You are ordered to take out all of your major competitors, Wendy's, McDonalds, Subway, KFC,  ect. So for example, you must battle you're way though Subway, massacring all of the employees, finally to battle... Jarred with special moves such as Five Dollar Foot long! Likewise, you must take out other bosses such as Wendy, Ronald McDonald, Cournel Sanders, ect.

The story is going to be "over dramatic" and "bloody", so think of it like this. You're battling employees, and blood splatters everywhere. Or if you're battling Wendy, as she's dying, there may be this really sad song playing and show her slowly falling down, just to be ended by you blasting her brains out.

Character:

Megambo - Megambo is not you're ordenary employee. He is in his mid 20s, and has been working at Burger Tyrant for many years now, and thus has been conditioned to have little emotions. In a tragic working accident, he has lost his left arm, which Burger Tyrant had replaced with a .... GUN for this mission. Being the type of guy he is, he has shaggy hair, a five o clock shadow, army war vest, lots of amonition, and cameo pants. The term Megambo comes from the two characters that inspired this character, Mega Man and Rambo.

Features:

Its a side scrolling third person shooter.
- platform system
- Fast action
- full 360 degree shooting
- many weapons
- possible multiplayer (LAN) expansion
- bloody action

Side Note:

This is only a learning experience for Fox Bytes, and thus the story and all is not a large focus; however, this project and coding template, will lead to more in depth and advnaced games. Fox Bytes is only a school team, but I am planning to take this game design concept to a higher level, and start a team with a broader group of people (I already have a number of people lined up). And hopefully once we get something good going, we're gonna produce and sell commercial games (not like "in stores" commercial, but like buy from our website for $10 commercial).

YOU!:

The story and whole game is very open, so I'm asking for suggestions, feedback, or anything you would like to say about any of this. This is still in the production phase, so features and such that you would like to see would be easy to add.

I would show screenshots, but we have no decent graphics right now and are using temperary paint graphics.

Oh it will, as well as a lot of other interesting ones. We're thinking about a chainsaw launcher, but that might be a bit tough.

As for screens, I can post some from Megambo tomorrow when I get to school. Otherwise I have a few screens from my version of the game, which uses the same system, but a little different, I'll post the pics from that now. And you have to realize MY version of the game always has to have dragons... :) Megambo doesn't.

Though I warn you, the temp graphics from Megambo is one of the ghost from PacMan shooting paint made bullets at a stick man...

It used to be a door, but then I modified the event to take away health when you walked through it, so it slowly killed you. Someone thought it'd be funny to make it a cigarette, and I haven't changed it back or anything yet.
