Val's Real Art
« on: April 02, 2009, 08:24:18 PM »
Thought I might post some of my non-sprite stuff in here.

Nude male model from life drawing class. You guys are lucky there's no shlong in sight.

Sadly, most of the stuff I do at school is on paper that's way too large to scan. This was one of the few in a notebook.

I play Final Fantasy XI Online, and this was an entry for a fanart contest. It didn't come close to winning, but it was actually one of the 40 or so put on display at the official fan gathering, so that was pretty cool.

A drawing of a gnole from FFXI. Sometimes I'm too lazy to erase structural lines.

I had a college newspaper comic strip for a few semesters. This one was from an ongoing storyline. I thought it was pretty good, but the art style makes me cringe.

An earlier strip. It got kinda surrealist at times. I kind of wondered what the other students thought.

An even earlier strip. This one is funny, but GOD is the art bad. Hard to imagine how bad I used to be.

A project in one class was to make a band poster. This was mine.

...wierd. In my Digital Design class, we're going to do the same thing. (Make a band poster.)

You're really good, really. The kind of stuff that made me give up drawing many years ago.

However, it was a little hard to tell that the guy was underground, I wish the shadows behind him were darker.

I actually had to make a band poster in two classes. I guess that theme is really, really popular with digital drawing teachers.

Ha...thanks.

Not trying to brag, but I draw much better. Ive only been spriting for the last 5 years. Ive been drawing since i could hold a pen.
Ive put on a couple of shows. I have one coming up next year, so at some point i need to actually draw again. With the exception of the last few years, drawing has pretty much paid my bills since i turned 18.

Id like to see more of your pencils Val. Post em. Especially your still lifes.
I never ended up going to school, so whenever i have friends that are attending, i kind of envy them when i look at the projects they do.
I always kind of wanted to be an art teacher....but i guess one day i should get on the whole "student" thing first.

post more of your stuff when you can....i like your style.

This is the sort of thing that makes me wish I could draw. I was pretty good until I was about 12, and then I suddenly lost any semblance of ability.

I second the motion for seeing more.

This actually looks like something Alex Grey might do, if the colours were way more trippy.

All very good, but the head and neck look a little out of proportion in the still life. Like, bulbous. Maybe that's what the dude was like though, I don't know iwasn'tthere

We were learning foreshortening, so it was an overhead view...like, I was physically standing over this guy. So the proportions are accurate for the angle.
