Now with some coloring! Not quite finished though.

Better. Darker might help a little, but "better" is the key word.

It's not the color so much as the fill going roughly against the black line. What graphics program are you using?

Yeah, that doesn't look great, either, but the XTREEM COLORZ are sure to make me go blind if I look at them too long.

I don't have the $$$ for PS or other expensive photo editing software. And I don't have the patience to use the draw out layering methods used by GIMP.

Basically, THIS is why I don't normally color. And may never do it again because I hate coloring. But I'm working on it as I go along, I'll clean up the roughness eventually.

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but from what I can figure, GIMP works quite similarly to Photoshop with its layering. In fact, pretty much any quality image editing software has this feature. If you want to do things like that with software that isn't Paint, then you'll have to get over it. Besides, these fancy-pants programs make coloring infinitely faster and easier than doing it in Paint.

And besides, there are less expensive ways of getting those costly programs...

Coloring by hand is not exactly faster and easier when you have "nervous hands". I have to steady myself to draw. This is worse when drawing with a mouse where I can have a sudden spasm WHICH IS GOD AWFUL ANNOYING. I have occasional spasms when I'm trying hard to concentrate, why in the most inopportune times?

I find this actually slower because I'm in the meantime trying to be careful and stay within the lines while at the same time trying to cover ground. Guess I kinda try to pace myself, get flustered, then rush when I feel I'm not getting as much done as I had hoped for. Added, all tutorials I have found on the net so far are too vague and don't really tell me anything about texture and shading effects, and I hate looking through loads of features to find them.

Maybe I'm just not used to it.

Drawing by hand?

...

Oh! That! I'd completely forgotten it existed because of all the fancy tools on Photoshop that make coloring something in as easy as "wipe the colored brush across the screen until you've colored what you want completely".

Yes, it's just that easy.

Must be a Photoshop thing. Aw screw it, it's apparently too much for an archaic simpleton like me. I'm probably forgetting some stupid step somewhere, or I lack basic understanding of something basically common to these fancy image editing programs.

*sigh* Whatever, to answer your question I cleaned up the image a bit in Ultimate Paint, then started laying out colors in MSPaint. So yeah, I suck.

You see, I've ALWAYS used MSPaint, for spriteing, animation, etc.

You really can't rely on fill....you have to open it in Photoshop or whatever, switch the layer to Multiply, and color it in manually in a layer underneath.
