No kidding?

There's this 'scientific' magazine on my country called Superinteressante, Superinteresting to you guys, which was good but gradually started to suck once they decided everything could be traced down to genetics.

The guy is a thief? Why, we might just be looking at a guy with THIEF GENES!

The guy is homossexual? Why, there are COLORFULL GENES!

Are you atheist? You may be going against your JESUS GENES!

Hitler suicided because he had SUICIDAL GENES!

The guy likes rock rather than classic music? That's because he's got OZZY GENES!

I'm not making any of this **** up. Well, other than the genes names, but every listed example was said at least once. You steal because your genetic makeup tells you to steal, you are merry because your genetic background is gay, you are atheist because you are stubborn and just won't accept you were programed to believe in God.
Yes, they used the term programmed.

Plus, they tried to explain Hitler's genes so many times and coming up with so many different genes for him (hating genes, killer genes, speech genes, suicidal genes, arrogant genes, but, strangely enough, no vegan genes) the guy must have the most advanced genetic system since God.

Then, one of these days, a new headline in the cover. In BIG, BOLD LETTERS, it was as it follows:

GENETIC IS NOT THE SAME AS DESTINY!

"Well," though I, "at least they are clearing up their misinformations up until-" then I read the rest of the cover, in smaller font and not as bold, but also in caps.

"THIS NEW DISCOVERY HAS REVOLUTIONED ALL WE KNOW ABOUT DECEASES"

cue facepalm, this time I didn't even care I was wearing glasses.

How, in the named of my gene-mandatory God, do they think this is a NEW DISCOVERY? Genetic-Jesus! I know this stuff since I was 12! I mean, really? Do we really needed to treat this as a miraculous insight? It's OBVIOUS that stuff ain't destiny!

That just shows Hideo Kojima is smarter than most genetic researches, since he found that up and explained everything by the end of Metal Gear Solid!

Then next month, the same magazine was explaining why people drink because they have drunk genes.

Dear God, I need to start drinking. Genes or not.

So... If I were to kill someone... Then I could blame it on my genes, and get off scotch free?

This sounds pretty stupid. DNA determines some things, but not anything significant on higher thinking, like atheism or music preference. I wonder who writes this crap?

A person who claims they know a lot about this stuff and get overpaid for talking about it.

That magazine needs to start taking lessons from the U.S. scientific journal, Cell--they had Hirohiko Araki, the guy who made JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, draw a robot-protein pummeling a REM bacteria (something like that) the only way he can. Awesome.

As for genetics....ha. I lost favor of that stuff a long time ago. Why bother with it--we can apply it, but it doesn't mean we can genetically manipulate anything. Genes aren't Lego blocks--they don't stick where you force 'em. They can only attach to certain other genes, else you get mutations up and down the genetic code. Not the good, X-Men kind, either--the debilitating, 'I-can't-make-a-vital-enzyme' kind.

There's some meat to this story though. There've been a lot of studies done on identical twins who were separated at birth. Regardless of the different environments they get raised in, the twins always have a remarkable amount of similarities in demeanor, quirks, taste in music, even what they name their children. Other studies on adopted children find their IQ's and criminal records almost always resemble their birth parents' more than their foster parents.

Scary, isn't it? We're pre-programmed.

I'm nothing like my parents or my family members. I don't even have the same accent.

Not everyone turns out like their parents. I mean, look at me. My folks were honest, hard-working people.

Pwnt

I am remarkably like my father in every single way, so some genetics I believe in
However...claiming everything can be traced back to your DNA is just bull
I don't have spell check over here, can't you tell?!?!

It's a reference, actually.

However, it does totally apply to me...
