I've got a dual core processor in this laptop.  I don't even know what they are.  Piece of crap.

Fix'd.

Mind, I do have a nice processor. TF2 is a smooth 80-100. Dead Space around 50-60. HL2 around 120 or something
stupid. Crysis at about 3FPS XD. Nevermind, it's an over-rated graphics heap with limited replay value.

I'm guessing it's around the area of 2.2, since that seems to be a common laptop spec.

Hmm. Well mine's 2.4, and it works just fine with most games. Sure, i don't push a constant 60 fps, but I do pretty well. 20-40 fps isn't at all too uncommon for me, with newer games.

I average a little better. 30-50 for recent games, with some exceptions. Some games run amazingly well. Call of Duty series, for example, are 60-90 average on full settings. Of course, some games are a pain to run. I believe I've mentioned that TF2 and Oblivion run like *** on my rig a few times in the past.

Might be worth mentioning that I have a Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz and an NVIDIA 9800 GT powering my PC. Not as phenomenal as it was a couple years ago, but it's still a force to (occasionally) be reckoned with.

I'm looking into getting one of the 8 series.
You guys weren't listening to me were you.
Both of those are in the 8 series.
And I'm planning on getting them once I get some cash.

Wouldn't something newer be more logical? 8 series will be outdated pretty soon, so you'll be forced to update again.

That's my answer.

So's the 9 series. And at least they're not as close to obsoletion.

You fail to see that new games are coming out, ones that the 9 series barely manages. And Crysis is good, anyway.

It's not like it's a massive price difference. Here's an example: I have two links to cards on newegg.com. One is from the 8 series, the other is from the 9 series. Neither is top-of-the-line, but both are at least decent.

GeForce 8600
GeForce 9600

Now, the difference in price is about $35. The difference in performance, on the other hand, is pretty noticeable. Now, given that this "cheapskate" dad isn't also bad at telling a deal, it's easy to see that it's well worth the extra scratch to grab the superior card. Note that both of these cards are also on the cheapo end of the spectrum. They get better than this, but if you're really concerned about the cost, this is where you should look. Also, avoid most retail locations (like Best Buy and Wal-Mart), because you can find much better prices online at a good site.

That right there is a problem.
My dad's fairly computer illiterate...and has a tendency not to believe me (even though that I've frankensteined my current PC fairly well, and actually know what I'm friggen talking about) when it comes to computer things.

I'm pretty sure that, to him, spending $80 on just one present is just a horrid idea.
Why not just buy him a new game 8D

As much as I love my dad, god he's bad at spending money.
