That's a brilliant storytelling method. Make the beginning so convoluted and difficult to read (hello, tiny writing!) that the reader is actually anxious for the arrival of a cockroach.

I have. That was really the icing on the ****-cake of an already awful movie.

At least a lot of Indian actors got work.

True, but it's somewhat degrading when you're working in a movie you know is portraying the people of your race as the bad guys and the shiny white stars as the good guys. On the bright side, maybe they'll get more work after...
Yellowface/Brownface is getting to be a ridiculous trend, and I don't know why people are being so indifferent about it. Aside from what's obviously offensive about it, if I was a white person I would be incredibly offended, since the majority of responses from interrogated producers is that they need to produce films "audiences" can relate to and they feel people will have a hard time relating to people of asian or south asian descent. How stupid and racist does that make you guys sound? Everyone else can relate to other people except you? Fffuuuuu...geeez... even I'm offended for you.

Gah, I want to write more about it but I don't even know where to start because there's so much rage in me when I think about this topic.

:/

The bright side is....the whole Racebending thing kicked up a lot of controversy. Ideally, studios will think twice before trying to "whitewash" characters from an established franchise again...like, from looking at the Racebending site, it seems they've convinced Marvel to specify "Asian-American" in the casting call for Nico in the "Runaways" movie. I can easily see how they could've ended up with a pale, dark-haired white girl for the role if they hadn't done that. And Nico's essentially the leader of the Runaways, so viewers will have to find some way to relate to an Asian girl.

Just in my nature to try to be optimistic.

Yeah I saw that casting notice. It's great they made that change. Unfortunately it also meant you had to be an American citizen to audition :(...cause I wanted to... *sniff*

Yeah... D:   Although "Asian-American" could just be their PC default way of saying any kind of Asian who speaks English well. But you'd know better than I would!

It said "US Residents Only" and we're definitely not U.S.

Isn't Canada part of America?
Shhh! I found out recently that saying this makes them really uncomfortable. Especially since it happens to be true.

Would you call an Austrian a German? Or a Korean person Chinese? Or a Brazilian person Mexican? We're Canadian...

I've always thought of Mexico as "Central American."

We're on the North American continent, but at least in Canada when we say "American" we are referring to people from the United States of America. If you go abroad and say you're American people will probably also assume you're from the U.S.

Anyway isn't this thread about Val's comic?
