So I figured out how to rip sprites myself and I must say, it's 1000x easier than I ever expected it to be

This one is my personal favorite, can't believe they only used it once in the entire game

He's right, the tilesets don't download to the proper size...

I think it's because they are so big and photobucket is fail.

I'll repost them asasp.

If you're still having trouble with water looking funny. Try using "curvy" tiles at the edges to make it appear more natural. I'm not sure how well this would work in rmxp, but I'd take a tip from Meiscool and use events as water tiles. Set the events to transparent and voila! The water looks a lot more natural and anything underneath it looks like it's under water. The layering can be a bit tricky, and all those water events can make for a lot of tedious "copy paste".

As for the curvy edge thing I was talking about, it's pretty simple to do yourself and can easily be done in mspaint. Once you've got your water tiles set up where they ougta to be on your charaset, you simply go about trimming the edges in circular patterns. This style works best with water bordering cliffs. So when you do this, consider the edge of the cliff tiles you use in the game. Here's an example of a charaset I made for rm2k3 where I do just that.

As you can see, the "curvy" pattern is really basic and simple, but it conforms to the type of cliff tile I use. When everything's set up right in game, you end up with something like this.

I hope I explained that well enough, I kind of rushed through this 'cuz I want to get to bed.

EDIT: @ Futch, sprite sheets from The Spriters Resource won't work as they come in RMXP. You have to rearrange the sprites to the correct proportions of an RMXP charaset.

Which I think would be (anything divisible by 4) x (anything divisible by 4). Which means, for example, if you're sprite is 25x25 pixels, then an RMXP charaset for him would be atleast 100x100 pixels. That's because when you upload a charaset to RMXP, it cuts the picture file into 4x4 blocks. Each row vertically is a facing direction for the sprite and each row horizontally is for walking animation, or really any kind of animation you can make with 4 frames.

Yeah the water was a giant pain. I kinda cheated tho

I just edited the RTP water tile until it was pretty much blank.

Then I just pasted it as a layer over whatever grass I needed it to match

End Result

Looks ok I think
