I've put a lot of work into this game because back when I begun work on it, Drak mentionned about how tired he was of games designed just to anger him. And likewise, there was complaints by some reviewers about how the games were just plain not fun. I, myself, also found myself finding that the recent crappy games were too genuinely crappy rather than parody-like in nature and were rather dry compared to, say, Ketchup or Gulpy Gulpy.

So with Shyouzen Vs The Retards, I tried to create a 'crappy game' that was much more akin to the older entries. I picked a stage-based theme and then went with theming each area after a particular annoying point in RPGs or a meme of sorts. Then, I strung it together using a simple narrative (escape from an intentionally crappy world) and added some gameplay mechanics (Shyouzen's Karma + Helper replacements) and challenge to make it enjoyable and funny to play and review. Add in two humorous antagonists (Clausmynd Biggault and The King of Retards) and I think I had a rather good premise.

As I knew that a big part of why Drak (and other reviewers) tend to quit is the unability to ease things up when they run into supremely annoying things, I included two features to help the reviewer get through the game. One was the option to outright skip levels by sacrificing a small part of Shyouzen's max Karma and the other was the move 'Armageddon', which is basically a 'I win' button but has, again, a Karma cost so that the reviewer may use it to skip/speed up fights that have outlasted their welcome but doesn't become an excuse to not get through the game and its jokes.


In retrospective, I overshot my mark with the game ; although I like to think that most of the game is genuinely funny, I reckon that I could have shortened the game to a format more akin to Marisa Stole The Precious Thing with only one area per stage instead of three. Likewise, I think I got carried away with the battle difficulty balance ; some of the random encounters (in particular the Dracula clones in stage 4 and the Insane Cultist mobs in stage 5) could use having their difficulty reduced. Boss HP was also slightly too high (I think I should have reduced boss HP and increase the cost of using Armageddon instead).


I learnt a lot about making parody games with this one and when the sequel is eventually released, it will be shorter and less taxing to complete (I already got the basic ressources for it and completed its main game mechanics. The intro cutscene is done and work on the first area has begun).

I'll upload and release Shyouzen Vs The Retards publically in the following days. I'll post a thread on this board about it when it's ready.

This is less of a crappy game review, and more of a video containing my criticism towards the Crappy Game Contest as a whole.

Some of you might be offended by my opinions within the video. My words are harsh, but I hope some of you will understand where I'm coming from.

In any case, This is Space Invaders by PROGUY101. Some of you might recognize
him as one of the reviewers on the Drakiyth777 channel, along with me and a few others.

Anyways, for this video, I'm going to be discussing his game as well as
the crappy game contest series set by Drakiyth.

First, let's start with the game since there isn't a lot to say about it.
Some of you will realize that this game is a
rip off of Final Fantasy 7. No, not the Playstation Classic.
I'm referring to the crappy game made by FFL2 AND 3 ROcKS that was
submitted to Drakiyth's crappy game contest sometime ago that
possessed non-descript squares for graphics, and dialogue that
sounded like it came from a cave man.

This pathetic excuse for a submission pisses me off greatly, as
it represents everything I hate about the Crappy Game Contest.

The goal of the crappy game contest is to make a short, but bad RPG maker game.
This neglects whether the game should be entertaining or not,
and as a result, we get one of four different types of submissions:

1. Games that are genuinely funny, with clever jokes, and moments that make you go "What the ****!?", while maintaining the essence of a crappy game. Examples include Gulpy Gulpy by Zuhane, Cliche Quest 2 by Jacob, and ALPHA FORCE 2 by Bluhman
2. Games that attempt to emulate other crappy games submitted, but fall flat on their ***.
3. Games whose jokes almost entirely consist of memes or references to past reviews, with no originality whatsoever.
4. Games that do not try to do anything except be grating to play and watch.

I feel the goal of the crappy game review contest needs to be revised to prioritize entertainment and intrigue over crappiness.
Additionally, standards need to be raised for the reviewers of said games, since most of them are quite horrible at commentary.

Every now and then, I've considered starting my own version of the contest that reflects these ideals. However,
I can't help but feel that would be disrespectful to Drakiyth, since he was the first to come up with the idea.

Yet at the same time - and I'm sorry to say this about you Drakiyth - but it seems as though you've lost your
passion for the contest, and as a result, you frequently give up on a lot of the games you review.
You've let other reviewers take over your channel without considering how their often
bad reviews effect the popularity and enjoyment of the contest. I liked the contest better when
it was just you doing the reviews. You were a unique persona. A PC gamer who entertained us with his
deliciously amusing anger, interesting stories, and exaggerated voice acting.

It seems like the Drakiyth I once knew has disappeared and was replaced with
a man who has lost faith in himself.

It's because the contest has lost so much of it's entertainment value that
I've considered starting my own version of it. I still might, but it
all depends on if the contest becomes an object of entertainment again or not.
