I have a bit of a problem

So my room mate just got back from Las Vagas. Apparently he has done a lot of drugs there, and thinks that heroine addiction is made up by the government and isn't a real thing to worry to think about. I have tried to tell him everything I could think of to try to convince him that it is not a good thing to do... Sadly he won't listen to any logical or factual argument that I try to make. I'm at a point where I do not know what to do... Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do? I will have no guilt if I just leave him to do what he wants, but at the same time, he's my friend, and I don't want him to kill himself by doing these dangerous drugs...

Heroin is basically the worst of the worst when it comes to narcotics and their long term effects, but there's not a lot I can think to do short of the obvious which you've probably tried. Try getting in contact with a rehab centre or a psychiatrist and see what they have to say?

Yeah, might be best not to just leave it alone or he could become difficult to live with.  Not sure what to try though; most attempts would probably just start an argument and make him even harder to reach. You'll have to be careful about it... Or if you're really desperate, maybe inform one of his parents if they're the sort that he'd listen to. That's a slightly douchey thing to do though, so I'm not sure...

If he thinks that the addiction is a conspiracy ask him to stop -  and if he continues he proves that he is addicted and can't deny it anymore. Even if he says that he's not doing it because he's addicted but rather because he likes it - it's synonymous, means the same thing.

Also, at least get him into pot instead or something that won't destroy his body.

As long as he's paying, it's his problem. You can tell him you don't like it, you can tell him he's an idiot for thinking it's a conspiracy, but it's not your problem.

Yeah, heroin is literally the worst known narcotic on earth. It's just leagues and leagues more dangerous than any
other drug. It completely and utterly decimates your nervous pathways. How does he not know this? At least you're
smart enough to know to keep well away. You only have to try it once, then that's it.

Of course, if you're not the type to burn bridges with deadbeat druggies, you could always try the harsh route of getting police intervention. It's a punk-*** move, but I think your friend's life is more important than street cred.

Considering he's your roommate, **** Drace, yes it's your problem. You're living with the dude.
Calling the cops should be a last resort, though. But yeah, you should get a hold of a rehab clinic/doctor to figure out what your next move should be. I honestly wouldn't trust non-expert opinions on the matter. More harm than good is likely to come of it.

Since you live in America, the government WOULD sooner lock him up before helping him... Other than getting him a plane ticket to portugal, seek expert help and advice. I have no idea how you'd get a friend into rehab without lots of things going really wrong. You really can't do this without any help. Contact family of his but only if you trust them, or any friends of his you know for sure you can trust and seek advice and help. There has to be someone or something out there who can help you.

I prioritise my friends just fine. Look, the guy gave his concerns, told him he's acting like an idiot, what more is he supposed to do? If he does more, he'll only end up destroying the bond they have. I don't say leave the guy be like it is, mention he's acting like an idiot, sure, but don't tell him what to do.

Heroine addicts don't die that fast you goddamn idiot. And jail time would only increase his use because he'll be locked up like a criminal, in contact with criminals all day long. You want him to come out and have 20 contacts to get heroine instead of 1?

Goddamn, take it from the guy who actually had to live with a heroine addict for 7 years. They don't listen, they don't care, and being all "tough love" on them only makes it worse.
