Instant of Truth
« on: July 10, 2012, 07:29:27 PM »
Instant of Truth is my first game made with RPG Maker 2003.

A full description and a download link is available here: http://silkynet.toile-libre.org/rm2k3/

Battle style: RPG Maker Battle System with a few custom tweaks

Visual style: Standard RTP-like

Audio style: Standard RTP with added custom sounds and musics (not of my creation)

Story type: Initiatic quest

Universe: Middle-age fantasy world fraught with monsters and magic

Atmosphere: Mostly comic, with a few serious moments, I'd give it a G-rating

Difficulty: A few hard puzzles, some tough boss fights, well-hidden and hard but rewarding side-quests

Influences: Golden Sun, Aspetra, Pokemon, Sonny 2, Tales of Symphonia, The Legend of Zelda

Length: I know it off by heart, and I can finish it in a few hours. I'd say between 6 and 10 hours, depending on how much you explore

Since it's my first game, I discovered some features of RPG Maker as I made it, so it starts off small, and gets better as it goes.

Let me know what I could improve and what is good.

Any movies or screenshots? Typically posting visuals of a game helps. Ya know, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Here are some visuals, it's mostly RTP-based:

EDIT: Moved screenshots to the first post

I might make a short video, if I manage to record it cleanly.

More screenshots and details are available here: http://silkynet.toile-libre.org/rm2k3/.

I believe you're going for "instance of truth" not "instant". But uh, not a bad use of rtp, though that ice mountain isn't looking very impressive.

How long have you kept up the game-making hobby, just for curious?

Hey! You're in the credits of my game! ^^

I thought "instant of truth" was similar to "moment of truth" in meaning, I saw it used a few times. May be it's not common, I wouldn't know for sure.

And the screenshot of the ice mountain shows only a part of it, it's bigger than that.

Thank you for your input!

I began using RM2003 in 2008, and I've been working on my game on and off since then.

Yayyyy, credits! =D

and I was only speaking grammatically and grammatically I'm pretty instant of truth doesn't make sense. Also, impressive was a bad choice of words, I meant to say it's just not very good looking. It's hard to figure out where the cliffs are and what's going on in that map. Though, to be fair, that's mostly the RTP's fault as the cliffs and ledges aren't well defined in that chipset.

Oh ok. Well, too late to change the title now, I'll just say it's a new saying I've invented.  ::)

About the ice mountain, I see what you mean. I think I'll try to use better chipsets in future, but for my first game I just wanted to see what I could do with the RTP.

I made a kind of video teaser:

EDIT: Updated video teaser and moved it to the first post

And grammatically, I'm pretty you forgot to add "sure" somewhere in there.

Instant of Truth makes sense.
It's the instant at which the truth is made clear.

Although, I think I should note that X of Y titles are excrutiatingly common.

I like to pretend that he left a period out in this sentence instead of a "sure".
Using grammar as an argument for being pretty is utterly absurd! :3

EDIT: On topic though, it is good that the name is grammatically sensible... but IMO it is still an odd looking name. Not that names are the most important thing in a game of course...
