Optifine is great.
Not only does it make the game faster (in most cases), it also has a TON of customizable options if you don't like a certain thing in Minecraft.

For instance, don't like the rain noise?
You can turn off THOSE particles while keeping on every other particles, killing the rain noise while still allowing to see smoke and potions.

And boom; one super-sexy bridge now available near Grandy's cottage in the woods east of the spawn.

You know you are good builder when the bridge someone else built outside your home in half the day you build your home is better looking that the home itself.

Don't forget that in order to do that, he also had to create an entire wheat farm during that half day to create the roof of the bridge...

On a side note, I really want to create a tardis in minecraft. The door will actually be a portal to the nether which will consist of a giant replica of the inside of the tardis. If only I could make blue doors, blue wood, and actually knew how to create a portal to the nether :(

Minecraft has a pretty decent wiki.
Tells you how to do things in needlessly technical detail.

Did I mention that I'm terrible at reading documentation and instructions?

And harvest it two-and-a-half times, which meant growing it that many times, which takes far more time than necessary.

And I did it all for free.

So you know, no biggie.

If the game runs poorly enough to be considered barely worth playing, any optimization options are worth trying.
Not exactly. If too much stuff is required, and too much stuff needs to be lessened, I just lose interest. I'd rather play with lower (but sort of decent-ish) FPS but somewhat okay graphics than play with high FPS but cheap texture, tiny field of view, no animation, etc. in which case I simply won't play at all.

But I tried OptiFine. It's not perfect, but far, far much better. I just need not to be lazy and I'll probably join up. Probably. Possibly.

Personally my graphics card can handle anything thrown at it, but if a mod will allow more people to play, I say it's worth investigating.

I prefer to use the default (crappy) graphics, because that way when I'm building stuff, I know that's what other people see. I'm always afraid of downloading a texture pack, having my stuff look great from my point of view, but looks like crap when viewed from the default texture pack..

Yeah, I'm not interested into texture packs. I mean, sure, they look great, but I just prefer to keep the game as close to it's original design as possible, which is why I also skip any mods. Only exception is character skin.
However, since OptiFine changes nothing aside from adding video options and increased FPS, I went with it. I can now enjoy the game a bit more, although I still require short view distance in the open. But considering I had to set it at tiny and still had lower FPS, that's still really good. I just increase it to far when I need to see further and then change it back to short.

I'm happy to be able to both play the game at the highest settings with a great FPS (no less that 60) and run the server.

So you know, PC master race.

Ah, but he had a wheat farm beforehand. sneaky sneaky.

Also, make sure to change the nether portal soundfiles to the tardis sound for better accuracy.

Relevantly, here is a picture of my last game

With textures

OH GOD MY EYES

Also, Arch, are you still willing to make me pretty and not Steve? If so, the best reference I could give you is this picture.

Not even close. I had to turn my entire yard into a wheat field in addition to using the public wheat field and my personal wheat farm and m private reserve.

As for the custom skin, any and all images, pictures, sprites, and whathaveyou will come in handy. There's really no limit to how many sources you can give me, especially if they show some alternate angles. I'll probably get started on it today.

This is my favourite texture/resource pack.
HD ones bug the **** out of me.

Also, pay no attention to the fact that I'm all over that topic.
None at all.

ed: If you download Xenocontendi, I'd recommend taking out the endermen sounds.
they're not that great

Gee, I'll have to see if I can log in my old photobucket account then.

All my sprites are in there

EDIT:

I don't think I can find any images from behind... I always neglected my character's backside for some reason or another.

Anyway, all the references I could get so far (the further down you go, the older the reference gets, quite a few ones are nothing but recolors of similar looking characters);

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/GrandyGuy/Grandymsntr.png

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/GrandyGuy/imagem.png (haha oh man, Pablo, I had forgotten about him)

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/GrandyGuy/avatarwar2.png GOD I AM HAVING A SERIOUS CASE OF FEELING EMBARRASSED ABOUT SOMETHING I DID YEARS AGO RIGHT NOW

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/GrandyGuy/wondefulGrandy.png

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/GrandyGuy/Charasgearsolid.png Who drew this again? I think it was Zeke

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y41/GrandyGuy/sprit-9-1.png okay, I'm done, this is as far back in time as I manage to go without grandy's design looking compeltely different (wavier, less spiky hair and blue eyes instead of green, no sash, different pants and boots, no gloves, looking much older, the list goes on...)

Also, I am aware that Minecraft pro'bly wouldn't look good with a spriter-on cape, so you can leave just the white sleeveless t-shirt.

That is, if you're doing it

which would be appreciated, but I don't want to put pressure on you

you know

as a favor

thanks

if you'll do it

but if you won't that's fine as well

I'm about half-finished with it at this point. There is a cape. There are currently only recycled arms and legs keeping it from being a proper skin. I'm currently parading through Minecraft with the skin on display for all to see.

I've made the hair look considerably better than when DB and Fruck first saw it.
