Everyone says Papers, Please is great, but I find it an ultra-tedious memorization test of a bunch of random cities and countries, which feels a lot more like work than an actual game. Props for effective simulation of a border guard, I guess, but I don't get how this is actually enjoyable.

It's a weird one, for sure.
The main reasons why I rate it so highly is due to the stories it brings. The mechanics are super simple, and the rote memorization can be boiled down to a quick glance at things, but oh my, the plots, the characters, everything feels soo riich. It's by far one of the most immersive games I've ever played.
I wouldn't exactly call it "fun", but it's certainly enriching, and that's why I love it.

I've also been checking out itch.io for things, because I've turned into THAT indie game player.
It's a worthwhile site to check out, but I'd wait out on hosting stuff on it until they get the weird european tax **** that just came into play this year figured out.

I guess it's not for everyone. Much like any sim, it's satisfying when you do things correctly, even if the premise seems boring to the observer.

I mean, tell me why fucking Farming Simulator is fun.
