i'm not saying it's a bad thing, but RELAX! you make it sound like you'll give your life away for charas. again, it's not a bad thing but it's over doing it. well, whatever. i don't want to turn this into a huge arguement. *waves white flag*

btw, i never said Charas doesn't deserve credit. if you look around a bit you'll notice that i even made a thread of Charas not getting enough credit because Pro-Spriter-Wanna-Bes come in, make something out of the online charset generator and claim it for themselves.

To return to the main thread, The site is not imediately in danger, but if pop finds some hackers, we're in bad situation...the ban will be unusual in this kind of situation...

true, but no hacker would do stuff this big for free. if it's his friend then hey, we better get some anti-hacking devices.

if he does try to guess, then that would be the solution.

if he hires a hacker, then that would be useless. think of it as a variable in rm2k. so alex sets his password and stores the value into a variable (his password). but if the hacker somehow found a way to change the value stored in that variable, then the password could be known or changed. which is why we need Anti-Hack stuff in order to make that variable harder to find. well.. of course it depends on how this forums was made so don't be so alert and all that. stuff i say may not be always true hehehe

sorry for dual posting, but here's what a friend said on how to prevent an average hacker on getting into Charas' database

for php is easy , just prevent some pinging from the same IP

i dont know what the hell "pinging" is but here's what he said

 

that means 'package pack transfer to the sever to get response'

if you wanna deal with pro hackers, here's what he told me

 

set a filter in the sever or use hardware firewall

lol.. i asked him what you should do if he was the one to hack the forum, he said

 

hmmm, i think they better setup buffer image for php sever

 

and change ip time by time

he's a good hacker himself, but he doesn't do nonsense cuz he thinks it's pointless to. that's why i think those guys are useless cuz what will they get from hacking charas? fame? fwahahahaha no freakin way!

i think his friends are as good as my friend here, so just protect the database. if you wanna make sure, then put in the other steps

but the results are slower loading speed for the others.

Well, now about Charas database and related things.
Charas wasn't built to be "undestroyable", expecially the forum (as you know, it's a DeKoffie production revisited by me in these last months).
Anyhow:
- Daily backups of the whole server exists (pages, resources ands databases)
- The database server is located on another machine, with a different IP
- Changing IP is hard becuase i don't own a DNS server. The world should know how to reach us
- Anyhow, having the DB somewhere else, the IP problem is higly reduced.

On the other hand...
Being Charas not built to be "undestroyable", some hole may exist.
I don't think there's something serious, but i can't say for sure. After all i am alone, so to check everything is hard.

But consider the difference: pop claims to look for CRACKERS, not HACKERS.
If there's someone here that is able to hack (not crack), feel free to test the whole system: i'd be glad to fix eventual bugs found.

anyways, yeah, he is pretty powerful if you ask me, but he's a modest guy so yeah.. he denies.. hahaha.. looks like you have everything backed up in another server.. looks like there isn't anything to reallyworry about then.. hehe

well, talented hackers know that hacking into sites for entertainment is useless. hacking for stuff that they need is what talented ones really do.. lol..

btw, that friend of mine.. is just around my age.. lol.. i'm 17 and he's 18.. he's loco, i tell ya.. he knows stuff that i would know in 30 years of education.. hahaha

You do forget that when he DOES hack your database he can get lawsuited. He's NOT hacking on YOUR database, he's hacking the whole OMBRA database. So he would have the Ombra.net server owners on his ***. And that means lawsuit. And jail.

1) Since when did you get the priviledge of calling someone a gay?

2) Good hackers don't destroy other people's site. I mean, you can't possibly hack a site to bust it AND erase your tracks. That would take too long, and before that you're already busted.
