Siren of the Sea
« on: March 23, 2005, 10:00:48 PM »
This is my first game. Although I only started making the game a year ago, I promise it will be decent. I came to Charas for some resources and I really like it here. I attached a title page screen of the game in this post for a little sneek peek.\

The game currently has about 152 maps, and takes a few hours to beat so far. When i post a decent demo up, I'll tell you. :)

[SHADOW]STORY[/SHADOW]
 - Well, to give the storyline of the game in a breif summarization is a little difficult, but here goes: You play as Felicia, a young woman travelling the ocean. Felicia and her friends live in a parrallel dimension called DreamWorld.
DreamWorld is a seperate dimension from the RealWorld. When people of the real world go to sleep, their minds drift off to DreamWorld where extraordinary things happen, and then go back to there bodies when they wake up. Although the people of the Real World are not aware that DreamWOrld exists and come to the conclusion that dreams is just biological science, the people of the DreamWorld are fully aware of the RealWorld and its inhabitants.
Now, you play as a wanderer of the Sea, Felicia, with her companions. The story is just thrown at you at once: the very begginning of the game starts off as Felicia's ship, the Siren, is being invaded. But what starts as a ship invasion becomes an adventuors quest to save DreamWorld from an evil plan, and to fulfill the Prophecy of Aeila.
I don't want to give TOO many details away, but that's a good idea too have of what exactly the backround story of the game is, since it isn't fully explained in the game.

 [SHADOW]Characters[/SHADOW]

 Felicia
A beautiful woman who wanders the Facilian ocean. She is brave and loving, and although she appears cold, she is a wonderful woman who loves all people above herself.

YOU CAN FIND OUT ABOUT THE REST OF THE CAST OF 12  YOURSELF. :)

Well...okay, I'm going to go now.

I've played it now, I've noticed a Huge bug... When the nun gave me the key to the church I still could not enter it... thats just annoying...

Apart from a HUGE mix of Char, Battlechar and face sets, The game was fun ^^

Things that I think should be fixed:

1. Lower the caracters lvls, It's boring to start the game with lvl 98
2. Lower the amout of curses
3. make a more reasonable start, I did not follow at all...

Question: Are you suposed to start on a boat on lvl 98 and the boat "siren" has exploded?

Well, that's not the beginning of the game. I still need to fix that stupid intro. The door still won't open? But I fixed that...hmmm...I'll look into it.

Yeah, Felicia is suposed to be amazingly strong and not even realize how powerful she is. Don't worry, ther will be tough battles in the game without her. :)

And the mixture of chipsets/charsets/battlecharsets adds flavour, no? I just wanted to have a look that was different apart from the thousands of games with all the same this and that, ya. :)

Thanks for playing, and I really appreciate your comments. I'll get those things you said fixed. :)

This is just my opinion, so don't freak out on me. I think that the use of different styles of facesets is superbly unnatural. I think it'd be best to stick with one style. Also, the different charsets. Unless the tall characters are giants, I think they should be the same size as the rest, otherwise known as RTP sized.

I agree with the facesets, that looks strange sometimes. I'm trying to look around for facesets with matching styles.

I was also wondering what any of you think of my original music for the game. As a little sneak peek, you can preview Merle's Theme at the same site of my download.

If the DreanWorld is where we go when we sleep... is there a NightmareWorld?
 I find the story good.

I downloaded it and played it a bit, its going really slow though because my rtp is wacked, and every time an rtp file comes up in your game I get an error. Then I have to copy and rename a file in my rtp folder, so good news is when I finish your game, I should be set to handle the normal rtp graphics  :D

Anyway I like your story a lot, it seems original. But you really need an intro, starting off like that was kind of confusing. A good intro would add a lot to the game.

You're maps need a bit of work as well, the begining map that had the multiple flights of stars was very bland. It was just a screen of floor tiles, followed by a few stairs, then followed again by a bunch of floor tiles. I suggest you condence it a bit so its not as long, then you probably should add a few things such as a table, a little carpet maybe, and stuff like that.

I liked the music a lot, but there were a few occasions where I thought the music didn't fit with the scene. For example, when the girl hears the news that her ship blew up, she has (or seems to have) a mixture of sorrow and anger, but the music doesn't really reflect those emotions.

Anyway you're off to a good start  :)

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

I tried the game but it got quite boring when you already has saved files... You should erase them so people have to start from the beggining. Also you type so much so in the same line so it says: (Ex. l)
__________________________
when we arrive we will attack th
with full power. We cannot lose t
battle.

__________________________

That wasn't from the game though... And the battle anymations when the fight jus pop up like that. You could make it so they say the word on the magic that's about to be casted. otherwise he game is good.

No...that's the thing. Satina is a malicious woman married to the Devil, a man who makes nightmares for people, but he has agreed with the King of DreamWorld that he only makes nightmares for those who deserve it as a punishment or need to be taught a lesson.

However, Satina wants everyone to dream nightmares for eternity, thus destroying DreamWorld and making it into somwehat a hell.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. I DO have a introduction of the game but due to some feedback I had to cut it off because of some glitches. It's not a part of the demo, I still need to fix it up a little, but it features original music and artwork.

Again, I really appreciate the feedback. Thank you all. :)
