Aftermath is a game that takes the elements of Final Fantasy, Fallout and Shadowrun and rolls them up into an exciting rpg filled with science, spirits and even magical things. The world never knew of these powers until the bombs fell.  This game is much different than anything you have ever played before and I hope you enjoy it!

STORY

In the year of 2032, a series of attacks were launched into the soils of the United States of America.
The communistic countries had gathered their forces to an extreme super power. The invasion from this attack was
overwhelming, and the only thing left that the U.S.A. could do was launch a nuclear attack against the homelands of
their enemies.

World War III had begun.

Mushroom clouds formed in the skies one by one and the world was covered in sheets of nuclear fire.
People that heard the sirens prepared their families and rushed to their local bomb shelters or hid in their
basements to try and avoid being killed by the explosions.  Anybody that was not buried deep under the earth
in pure steel vaults or shelters had a very bad chance of survival.

The people that were fortunate enough to hide in underground bomb shelters had a much better chance to survive.
Your family was one of the survivors that was lucky enough to have ties with the higher ranks of government which
saved your lives when the bombs were deployed.  You were born two days after the war in a shelter.  The light of day
was something you were never fortunate enough to see, but at least you were safe.

Twelve years after the war you and your family were running out of supplies and food which ultimately made you have
to leave the shelter and head into the wasteland. While traveling in the ruins of America your mother and father were
ambushed and attacked in their sleep by evil men and women with guns and blades.  These punkers as they called
themselves captured your mom and dad and took them away from you.   Being a child at the age of twelve you felt
helpless and hid behind a rock while you saw them taken from you. Not knowing what to do and scared out your mind
you ran as fast as you could but sadly fell prey to a pit trap which ended up with you hitting your head on a rock very
hard.

Opening your eyes hurts as the light pierces your skull like a knife.  Voices are all around and you can feel the warm
touch of somebodies fingers on your scalp...   Where are you?

The game takes place in the ruins of Arizona.

0.5 PATCH NOTES

AFTERMATH - CONTENT UPDATE 0.5  PATCH NOTES

WHEN IS THE END OF THE CONTENT UPDATE?

This update will not have anything indicating if you have completed it. It's got a lot
of stuff to do and find, so it honestly is up to the player when the feel they have
completed it and found everything to prepare for the next content update.

0.5 MAIN CHALLENGE:  Create a Brain Enhancer.  If you can create this object,
you have truly beat version 0.5 in bragging rights.

Aftermath in it's current state now contains at least 6+ hours of gameplay.

BUG FIXES

- Fixed a bug where the screen would remain black if you chose "Do Nothing" after
having sex with Wendy.  Players should no longer see "Do nothing" as an option.

-Enemies were simply not using their heals when they needed them the most. The
A.I. of enemies has been fixed which should make them more challenging.

- Fixed several bugs with the ammunition system.

- Fixed a bug that let you walk on the black ruins on the world map.

- Fixed a bug where when the main character left a cave area the game would be
considered night time during the day.

- Using GO! GO! DRINK!, Wind Walking, or Night Stalker will now properly show their animation
while in caves or when the flashlight is on.

- The main characters face will no longer be displayed when selecting dreams.

GAME CHANGES

- Caster armor will now grant half SP consumption. This has greatly increased the value of
these items.  However, it makes you feel like a pure caster when you wear it since most
skills have a pretty high cost to use.

- The music in the medical center has been changed to something more peaceful and not
  so repetitive.

- Added a reminder to save your game after Wendy is done talking to you. This will help people
who want to explore and die on accident so they don't have to start over with the long intro.

- The dream your character has at the very start will now grant a much larger bonus to your
  beginning character build.

Guns and War          = +25 Combat, +50 Skill Points
Walls and Steel       = +100 Health Points, +25 Protection
Books and Space   = +25 Mind, +50 Skill Points
  Fast Animal             = +10 Speed, +35 Combat

- GO! GO! DRINKS! will now explain what they do when you select one and they
now last for 1 minute instead of 30 seconds.

- GO! GO! DRINKS!, Wind Walking and Night Stalker now decrease your encounter rate
  when they are activated.

- Added a save reminder to the warning messages you get.

- The price of beer has been nerfed down to 10 coins.  It used to be a very
fast way to make money.  This change was to add some challenge into the
game for the early levels. There is also a new zone to do in the early levels,
so some balance needed to be done.

- Frankie will only ask for 1 mantis leg per turn in now. It's kind of rare to get
mantis encounter with all the bandits so this had to change.

- The price on the Wind Walking and Night Stalker spells have been reduced.

- Signs and other objects have recieved a darkening effect which makes
them look much better on the map and removes any brightness that stands
   out.

- The main intro story has recieved a revamp and new voice over.

- You will no longer see "MATURE" at the beginning.  You will now see
a different picture that is common on labels of albums.  I did this because
the game was never rated by a real company and it was just dumb.
The new picture gets the point across that Aftermath is a game designed
   for mature players.

- Removed all .22 Beretta pistol drops from junk piles in the town of Toyota.
This change was very much needed because some weapons were simply
being passed up and the flow of money early in the game was a little to fast.

These guns still have a chance to drop from the Rattler Caves.

- Did some sprite work on the main hero.  He now looks a little smoother and
no longer has the shiney part in front of him while turned.  This was something
I simply could not take anymore.

- A lot of animations have been reworked and the main character looks much

better now. Players who tried 0.4 or below will notice the change right away.

- Many sound effects have been reworked and some ambience has been added
to zones that did not have it before.

- Adrenaline shots now have a smaller animation that is much better suited
  for the main character.

- Changed the battle animation of Rushing Punch.  It now looks like you're
moving toward the enemy before punching them.

- Melee weapons have been buffed up and now offer the chance to
cause a lot more damage. This will give players the option to be
whatever they want in the wasteland.

- Melee weapon damage for two handers has been increased by a large
  amount.

- Single handed melee weapons have gained a +35% Critical Hit Rate.

- Two Handed melee weapons have gained a +70% Critical Hit Rate.

- The custom made slingshot now has a +55% Critical Hit Rate,
and it's damage has been increased by a large amount.
This is a special bonus because it's crafted and was not able to
compete with the double SMG's.  The price on the items to create
the slingshot have not been changed.

- Added shredded road and cement into Toyota.  It now looks like the
roads have seen much better days.  This also gives players a slighty
better sense of direction than before.

- Added destroyed walls of houses and buildings in most zones. You
won't see much in the town of Toyota since it technically was not a
town with houses. You will see a ton of damage from being close to
ground-zero in the new town of Winslow however.

- Craters from nuclear blasts on the world map are loaded with deadly
radiation, so watch where you walk.

TIP: Make sure to stock up on Anti-Radiation and Anti-Poison kits.

- The First Aid skill will now heal for a greater amount and the details
have been changed to "Decent" instead of "Weak".  Don't forget to
pick this skill up right away from Wendy.

- Molotov Cocktails will now scale with combat power.  This change was
needed so lower tiers of these fire bombs would be useful.

- Molotov Cocktails can now cause a burning effect. This is a fast working
damage over time that can be quite lethal.

- Added a simple flash on the hero after Wind Walking, Night Stalker or
  GO! GO! DRINKS! end.

NEW CONTENT

- New players or people who start over can now experience Aftermath at an
entire different pace. A new big quest has been added to Frankie. This
quest was designed to give players who love to adventure a better path
into the game then collecting bottles and mantis legs.

- Explore the new Bandit Building north of Toyota.

- The game continues in the ruins of Winslow and beyond.

- There has been some changes to the 2nd level of the Toyota Bar.
I wonder what that could be?

- Explore very dangerous areas that will require some thinking to get passed.

- Added lock picking into the game. Players will need to figure out where
  to learn this skill.

- Added the ladies' man skill into the game. Players will need to figure out
where to learn this skill and ultimately what they can get from it besides
  the obvious.

- Added the backstab combat skill into the game.  I will let players figure out
  where you learn this.

- Added new spells for the Shaman and Seer into the game.

- New weapons and armor have been added with new animations.

- New recipes and the Mr. Craft Volume 2 is now somewhere in the game.

To get the most out of the new update will be to start a new character.  However, old saved
games should work fine.

FEATURES

Final Fantasy style combat system in a post-nuclear world full of radiated monsters and mystical creatures!

Huge selection of guns, knives and anything else you can get your hands on for a weapon in a ruined world.

Treat people with respect or blow their heads off it's your choice in this twisted world.

Carry around an old notepad that keeps track of your skills and quests.

Move around the ruins of the wasteland collecting junk that can be sold or constructed into items with the craft station.

Ammo system gives the player a challenge through his hardships of the wasteland.

LEARNING SYSTEM

To learn anything in real life takes practice and patience.  This is exactly how you learn skills in Aftermath.

#1  There will be a lot of NPC's that can teach the main character different things but you have to find them.

#2  The NPC will more than likely send you on a difficult quest before you can obtain your skill.

#3  Once you have your skill you can do things on the maps that you could not before.

#4  Skills will increase in level every time you use them on something that's worth a skill up.

#5  To accomplish a successful skill check on difficult things you need to have a much higher skill etc.

Example: You run into a shady character late at night that's breaking into something. Through dialog you have the choice after spotting him to ask how he is so good at picking locks.  The guy explains what you need to do and sends you on a quest/mission or test to see if you're good enough.  Once you pass and learn the skill, you can start picking locks.

You can't pick any lock with this skill only easy ones.  That's until you gain more skill and become better.

Sounds interesting
Even if the basis is kinda cliche
But that was kinda unavoidable with a Post Nuclear Apocalyptic RPG

Sounds good, hope you get a demo in sometime soon

When I get to the stage of weapon design and the battle system I will inform you.  Thanks for wanting in on the AFTERMATH project.  I'm pretty sure if I do this right it will be a unique version of the game fallout but more final fantasy style which will bring the FF lovers in.

Things like super mutants and enclave are fallout and i'm going to steer away from that.   I got ideas of my own personal post-nuclear world that hopefully I can bring to life.

No prob, weapons are kinda my specialty, and yeah it would make a cool 'fallout' game. I'm looking forward to it!

Yes it does pwn.  I beat the game with an unarmed character that uses deathclaw gauntlet hehe.   Wish I would of played through the entire time on very hard because I was 20 when I got to the very end and hardly could play around with grim reapers sprint lol.   Very Hard offers a lot more experience per kill but the monsters are tougher.

Absolutely.   The original games were amazing no doubt about that.

New screenie up of Wendy who is the girl who rescued you as a little boy from the pit trap.   You find out you have been in a coma and on life support for six years now officially making your character 18 years old.

I do hope you dont put in excessively random laser weapons everywhere given your time period. I have seen quite a few game developers that think "Surely we'll have laser cannons in 20 year's time!!!" We won't. We'll probably get the next version of the desert eagle, not a ****ing STAR TREK PHASER. Anyway all im saying is use your descretion.

I am sticking away from the deep future weapons and being much more realistic.   Expect to see some cool weapons like two handed swords
and other things that people made after copying the medieval ages for survival.   I have a really cool idea to let the player find a replica of the
world of warcraft sword "Frostmourne" which was ordered from the blizz site.  This replica is of course 24 years old and was also customized by
the owner to have a sharp blade and reinforced steel casing making it a powerful sword.

You can find fireman axes, crowbars, lead pipes, pistols, rifles, sling shots, all kinds of stuff.

Looks very good.

Also off topic: Fallout 3 wasn't that good play 1 & 2 best games ever made.

The other projects I was working on was Crystal Crazy which is the same thing over and over and it lost it's appeal so I never released 1.2.  Ruins Of Azgayle which was lost from a virus.  Aqua Teen Hunger Force..  I never even got the first map done because I lost interest.  Nothing special to be honest and I never could find what I needed for ROA XP..  This project is something i'm enjoying making which is important.  I really like the fallout games as well so I am in a huge mood to create my own post-nuclear game.   This project seems to be attracting a lot of people too where my others were meh besides Ruins Of Azgayle.

AFTERMATH has a ton of potential and I think people will enjoy this game a lot more than my previous titles that never got out to public.

Ouch

Nice mantis, where'd you find it/how did you make it?

The mantis was from the rm2k3 RTP I got on my download..   Yeah, the wasteland is harsh.

The town of Toyota.

STORY:    Survivors of the war stumbled across this old Toyota car lot.   They noticed the signs all over the place that were not fully burnt from the nukes so they decided to
fix the place up as much as possible and called the town Toyota since it sounded good to them.  Toyota is nothing special when it comes to guards or power but it
is a place to live if you don't have any other choices.

Rat explaining the crappy news.

Gasp! He said ****.

On another note: it feels like the maps could use large piles of trash to block the path rather than some boxes and barrels (Unless it's Sprtite for life). Try to add more... Broken stuff. After all, there was a nuclear war just some years ago.
Hmm, try to search for the future parts of Chrono trigger and i think you'll find plenty of broken stuff though.

And yeah, that's the RTP manits, nothing special really.

Aftermath is a mature rated game so you will see lots of blood and cussing and even sex possibly.   Thanks for the lead on some good broken stuff I need lots of it lol.   If you noticed i'm already customizing my tiles with "Beer" signs and all kinds of other stuff.   Don't worry about the backgrounds and rtp i'll hardly use any of that in the final project.

By the way, if you look on the bottom left of the Toyota town screen you will notice a burned up car.

The characters look, too birght and livley for the setting this game takes place in, for example look at
lance here: (http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll74/Rebellion_4897/lanceholdgun.png) his
skin was made dark to fit the setting that the game takes place in. You should try it.

I'd say decreasing the saturation of the charsets would work good enough.
That's one of them good features Irfanview got.

Bright colours and desolated environment doesn't fit to well.

But you'll get a hang of it.

I've de-saturated the sprites and toned down their brightness.   They fit into the world a lot better now.   As for a hud or anything of the sort i'm still working out a skill system or anything like that right now.  I'm not putting 100% of my time into the project because I got other stuff to do but what I am doing is significant.   So far, the game is underway and it's looking to be pretty good.

Well, there doesn't seem to be many cars for a junk heap but you'll get it though.
And I donno but having sex with that girl seemed a bit easy.
You need to make the player fight hard night and day to get a girl in bed.
Like some kind of affection variable that increases if you bring her stuff or every time you kiss her.

Just something ot think about.

Keep it coming anyway.

I do have to agree with prpl.

And the sex scene seemed very awkward overall really.  He walks into the bed has a very small conversation, he chooses the option, and then she says something and its over.  At least fade out or something.  That way you don't actually have to show them having sex.

It's kind of a super move the main character does..  "Can I repay you for helping me?"   Leans in and kisses her.. BAM instant turn on.    Even showed Kali and she said it's hot and lesser words is better sex.   Though, I will take my player bases opinions to heart and see what I can overall do after a demo is launched.    Demo/Beta is great for feed-back for the final project.

Also, Wendy does offer at the beginning for you to sleep there anytime you want and offer medical supplies..  She took care of you for 6 years.   I'm sure see saw you naked several times.  She also really really really likes the main character and is indeed very sexual and nice to him.

Much better, now you just need a whole lot different burned/broken cars put in there: Piles of cars, cars popping out of the ground and cars stuck in walls.

Or something.

Just think, in some places, in the present, you can just ask a girl (for free) and both of you can have some fun.

I doubt just asking will turn her on though unless she is a desperate old woman.
But then again; I don't know Brazil very well.

I know one thing, you need to make your moves and get the girl's attention first. After that, you can bring her to your place... And stuff.

And yeah, I suppose that it would be easier to get laid after a nuclear war. But still, the player should have to do something at least before it happens.
I donno, have an affection variable start at 0.
If the player brings stuff to a girl - add 1.
If the player kiss a girl - add 1.
If the player sleeps in the same bed as the girl - add 2.
If the player stays at another girl's place - remove 1.
If the player steals from the girl - remove 1
If the player hit the girl - remove 2.

And when that variable reach 5-10 you can have sex with her. Or in her case maybe something like 3-5.

And I agree, at least fade the screen when they decide to have sex and then show it again and give that choice of how long you want to sleep.

But the blood animation on the cultists made it look like a tidal wave crushing against the hero and not the blood from someone getting hit.

You can't drink the beer, vodka, tequila and whiskey you find.  It's all considered a "Value" item and is used for making money.

It's official for everybody wondering what part of the united states this game takes place in.  Aftermath takes place in the ruins of Arizona.

SOME PLACES OF INTEREST - These places will be in the game at launch and much more.

GRAND CANYON - After the war, sightings of terrible creatures have been reported coming out of the deep crater of the earth.
FLAGSTAFF -         Major town that's ruled by the Republic Of Sand.   More on that faction later.
WINSLOW -          Starting town of Toyota after it was renamed after the war.
SEDONA -            Rumor has it this town is controlled by Punkers and their leader Black Eyed Jones.
DEVIL'S HEAD -    North of Flagstaff in the mountains. It's reported that something extremely evil resides in the caverns opened by the war.

100,000 degrees can turn stone to glass..  You will notice a glassy effect on most rocks in the wasteland desert.   I can assure you this game
will be loaded with all kinds of cool stuff.  One thing I wanted to do was add some mystical stuff into my game and Arizona is one of the most
mystical areas of the world.  Do a search for grand canyon and how it was formed and also the indian factions there.   I'm going to add some
things that were released after the bombs freed them that the earth has never seen before.

More info on the game will be launched in a couple days or so.   I've been working my *** off on this project lately.

Looks pretty good. This looks like a fallout rip, so I'll give some pointers based on what I felt about that game:

Vary your areas. Fallout 3 was graphically pleasing, but every area looked so damn similar with the same destroied crates and whatnot. You should make a charaset that is filled only with broken/damaged objects and use it in places. A filled charaset will be 96 objects, which should hold more than enough difference to make your game look post-bombings yet not overusing the same broken objects.

The player match the theme, the place looks post-apocalyptic and the sex part looked more possible. Instead of two messages you got a good monologue which more or less explained how it even was possible.

SKILLS?

A briefing on the skills or what your main character can learn besides carrying various weapons around.  I'm sure everybody is interested in that part of character design.

The main character is not going to be restricted to learning skills like the perk system in fallout.  After going over numerous amounts of notes and different things and trying
to make the most realistic sense out of this, I came up with the learning system.

LEARNING SYSTEM -

This is how the skill system will work in Aftermath.    I will be adding a ton of skills NPC's can teach you and I will let the players figure out where/what they are ;)

I dunno whether the 'freeroaming' feel of the game will really feel that way or whether it will come across as a bit of an illusion, but it looks good at the moment. It also looks like it's gonna be a helluva lot of work.

There will indeed be lock picking and much more.  Wendy gives the player a Notepad and Pen that keeps track of everything you have learned and their current level.

Wel that could be more like a candle system but if you wanted more of a flashlight system I would make it more like this:

Maby make it like:

<>If flashlight equipped
      <>If hero face right
               <>Show picture light pointing right
               <>Wait .01 Sec
      <>If hero face left
               <>Show picture light pointing left
               <>Wait .01 Sec
      <>If hero face up
               <>Show picture light pointing up
               <>Wait .01 Sec
      <>If hero face down
               <>Show picture light pointing down
               <>Wait .01 Sec

Though its fine if you want it to look like a candle light.

If you need any help with scripting things let me know and I'll try to work it out for you.

That candle system is useless. One problem with rpg maker 2003 is its inability to set different colors to different transparencys.

If you're going to use a candle system, I suggest putting a little more effort into it than what you've got. Make a large circle, but set it to zero trans. Then make a slightly smaller circle and set it to 90% trans. Keep doing this in incraments of 10% and you'll have a much better looking candle system than what you've got.

The flashlight is an item you use from your item screen.  Gadgets are much different and having to use your flashlight in your gadget slot would mean you gimp yourself on some stats or whatever else.

I was considering a simple cone for a light which would be more flashlight style with the character direction deal.  I might change it around later.
Wel that could be more like a candle system but if you wanted more of a flashlight system I would make it more like this:

Maby make it like:

<>If flashlight equipped
      <>If hero face right
               <>Show picture light pointing right

      <>If hero face left
               <>Show picture light pointing left
               <>Wait .01 Sec
      <>If hero face up
               <>Show picture light pointing up
               <>Wait .01 Sec
      <>If hero face down
               <>Show picture light pointing down
               <>Wait .01 Sec

Though its fine if you want it to look like a candle light.

If you need any help with scripting things let me know and I'll try to work it out for you.

I tried the north, east, south, west facing conditional branches *easy for me btw but thanks for asking if I need help* and it looked kinda shitty with the circle of light away from the hero making it kinda hard to see anything next to you.  The way I have it is mainly to find hidden crap on the floor or traps etc in pure darkness.   I'm working on making cones now and see how that goes.

CORRECTIONS:

The cone works great because it also lights up the room when it's on etc.  You can only use the flashlight in certain areas anyways so it gets the job done.  There will be a
video of it in use later on.

If you kill everyone, the employer dude repeats fighting.
If you get Rat's money, he won't take it for some reason.

And, since I rarely save, I have to go through the long intro again and again.

Otherwise, it is great. Do I feel a giant snake boss battle soon?

You just cheated through the demo?  :(     Part of the fun was to play the game as I designed it.

Rat is working fine.  You have to make a deal with him first.

I'll check out those bugs.

I fixed Frankie, he now works correctly.

Like I said before you have to make a deal with Rat before the 1500+ coins will take effect and proceed.

Thanks for the feedback..  I will be getting the bug-fixed version up right away.

I was honestly expecting a little more for the first launch of the demo.   Has anybody gave it a try without cheating?  Any feedback would be lovely.

Actually, I played twice. Once with cheating, one without. In order to see more, I cheated, so I can see what happens when you kill people in Toyota.

Ok here's what I think so far:
(I didn't complete the demo yet, but I will!)

Okay, so when I started I was thinking, "Oh, this looks awesome already..."
when I heard the voice, I nearly **** my pants. Then when it actually started,
it was going smoothly until I noticed there was no music playing in the background.
"Odd."I thought to myself. So then I played until I got to the part when I needed to go
see Rat, there was no music player either,"It's probably just my sound card screwing
up again..."so I shrugged it off. But then I noticed sound effects would play, even odder.
THEN I went to go chill with ma' lady. And all of a sudden I hear a moan. My mom is like
5 feet away from me, so I had to yell over it just so she wouldn't hear it. She asked me
what I was doing and I just said "singing".

But overall the game is great so far, a lot needs to be improved, but I like it.

ROFL nothing in the sound needs to be improved man.. You have a shitty sound card if you're hearing random sounds.   I have done literally hours of testing and ambience and I'm really sorry you're not getting the full effect of the awesome music/sound I put in Aftermath.

One thing you might want to do is check if your midi sound is up.

Check your volume on the sound of your computer.  Sometimes if you view midis online your sound will be turned all the way down on rpgmaker for some dumbass reason.

That thing with your mom made me laugh hard by the way..  I'm glad you enjoyed screwing Wendy haha.

I played it.
The scorpion game logo was really squeezed, if I hadn't read your post about it; I wouldn't have understood it.
This might be because I play in windowed mode though.
The intro text could look a bit cooler. Perhaps add beeping sounds like computer text. Would be awesome.

The game started, I accidentally  attacked the woman and she stabbed me. Awful way to go.

Restarted it and went to the guy named Frankie, took the bottle quest and started to loot junk.
I went to Rat and I took the deal. 1500g Jeysis I thought.
I went around to look for more junk, found a gun. "Awesome, I don't need to get 400 now" I thought and kept going back and forth. (I found like another 13 guns though, felt like I found guns more often than nothing).

I looked in that crafting book and thought. "Hey, a slingshot could be cool." But then I got to the people with the required stuff.
Cloth 200
Rubber band 200
Metal frame 400
Working tools 300
Now, I don't remember the real prices. These were just how I wish to remember them.
Anyway, I complete the empty bottle quest enough times to go to lvl 3.
I collect enough cash to pay Rat but I decided to buy some armour and then make the slingshot(huge mistake)
So I ended up with about zero money once more and a slingshot that sucked.
I did some Molotov and took the mantis quest.
I go outside and attack the mantis once, the dual wielding guy I named Garret simply shot it twice and it died.
I finished the mantis quest without even taking any damage(the armour+hat made them damage 0)
I had sex with the lady once more and from that point the day and night system seemed to disappear into nothingness.
I paid up the money to rat, I got the info I needed.
I decided to buy some medicine, couldn't afford much though and decided to stick with 10 painkillers and one venom cure.
I went to the dark cave, got awfully lost before I finally found those light rocks, got soem whiskey, found the flash light, killed a bunch of snakes.
I got to the second map and the narrator was like "Are you sure you can go on?" I was like "Hell, yeah, I'm lvl4 and duelling berretas with 96 ammo(for as long as I can remember).
I found the new snakes and while ordinary snakes damaged me 7-10, that one did a poisonous snake bite with damage 40 Ouch.
I used my venom cure but I kept fighting those snakes and ended up spending my painkillers as well.
I found the exit and the demo was over.
------------------------------
So, some tips then.
Erhm, You might want to decrease the making cost of the sling shot. spending so much money for a 2handed weapon with only 10 more dmg than my two guns seemed unreasonable.

Might want to decrease the finding rate of those guns. They gave me around 2000g when I sold all.

Getting 200 exp from finding the bottles seemed a bit much since you only got like 150 for the mantis.
And I ended up finding 10 bottles quite often.

The lady kept saying "Hey handsome" "You were great last night" and then "Hey Garrett" and the rest of the stuff. Seemed a bit odd that she called me handsome and Garret in the same conversation.
And she didn't change her "I hear you talked to Rat " thing and the "I need more money" option didn't disappear after I paid Rat.

The day and night system(at least I think there was one in the beginning) kinda screwed some things up. I was talking to Rat for the first time when everyone suddenly disappeared and ended up on the sofas. So I was speaking to none but Rat replied.
The day and night system also seemed to disappear after the second night, I had sex with her once more to see if there was any difference and since that point, no more day going to night.

Snakes, might've been the point but the larger snake was a lot better(as in 30dmg) better than the other smaller snakes.

I accidentally attacked many people in the town by mistake since some of them had the "Leave" at the bottom and others had it as the third.
So I had to fight some people some times. And load games.
At least make the cancel button automatically choose the leave option, makes my life easier.

Auto-combat kinda made killing mantises really easy.

With the armour and two guns, the mantises were no longer a threat.

And I think that's it. Just some tips of things that could be improved.
The game was great otherwise, I enjoyed it to the end. Even though I wanted a boss battle to show my Molotovs.

Thanks for the awesome feedback man.  I'm glad you overall enjoyed the game.  I have a lot of bug fixes I want to get done and I too think the beginning intro text needs some work..  I might go with the computer screen approach like in Fallout.

I will take a look at a lot of the annoying things you mentioned and see what I can do about it.

You did not like the slingshot?  I figured it was better than two .22's and finding ammo would be easier.    I will improve the damage on it.

The story will indeed continue and I'm working hard on getting out some new content to play.

Wendy will now say something different after the deal with Rat is done.  I fixed that earlier today.

The Beretta .22 Pistol is on a 20 out of 1 out of 20 meaning it's 5% to find in junk.   You got REALLY REALLY lucky finding so many.

I will work on fixing Wendy from greeting you twice after you bang her.

The day/night system will need some work I'm not sure why the hell it just stops but I'll fix it.   At least for now you can rest and reset it.

The heroes health goes up in huge gaps and the max level is 99.   You will notice enemies hitting for greatly improved damage to keep the
game balanced to his health.  Enemies are on a level basis scaled to the hero.  Those snakes were to get some challenge back in the game
after making the poor mantis your bitch.

Mantis is a level 1 enemy and when you're decked out it will be weak against you.. Nothing I can really do about that but give you harder ****
to kill.

Ammo system is buggy right now and will need some repairs.

Please post feedback or bugs you guys find..

Thanks for playing Aftermath!

You might want to add some other enemies than the mantis to the world map, just a suggestion.

And I donno, make the option to attack people only possible if you they tick you off. After killing one person: it's already game over since you can't get the reputation back. It was a bit hard when you couldn't even escape from the battle.

And if the town are trying to kill you: Make them kill the hero in his sleep. That would be awesome. I expeced it but I could calmly sleep my health back.

I have lots of ideas for enemies and that won't be a problem.  I kept it mantis on the world map for the demo and it's a newbie area to get started. Legs for the repeatable quest with Frankie and all that jazz.

I give the player pure freedom with his character.  For the people who want to play a lunatic I leave them the option to kill every living being in Aftermath anytime they wish.  There is no limits.

Kill while sleeping eh?  If you're low on medicine and you obviously can't buy anything anymore how would you recover lol?   Would be cool but a little too harsh for a bruddah trying to kill the town off with no medicine.  Maybe I can add a random factor so you can only sleep 80% of the time or something..  *shrug*.

Title: Re: AFTERMATH - A post nuclear rpg - Demo 0.3 - BOXES OF AMMO!
Post by: Drakiyth on December 12, 2008, 01:09:27 AM
MAJOR UPDATE!

Boxes of bullets have been added to shops.  These boxes are the price of 99 of the specific ammunition and can be used in or outside of battle to reload your guns.  One of the best things about a box of ammunition is the fact it has a built in mechanic to re-equip your main hand gun in mid-combat.

This is revolutionary to the Aftermath system because players can now still have at least 1 firearm after reloading in battle.  The game will automatically equip the best gun first before the worst.

EXAMPLE:  You run out of .22 short ammunition with your .22 Sub-Machine Gun.   Both of your guns are un-equipped since they are useless without ammo.

You have a spare box of .22 short in your inventory so you take a round to reload and add 99 bullets of .22 short and equip your .22 Sub-Machine Gun in your main hand over your .22 Pistol.

This will be coming out in the next patch/demo along with all kinds of other fantastic stuff!

AFTERMATH - DEMO LINK 0.4  ZIP FILE

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CQKAZUWL

AFTERMATH - DEMO VERSION 0.4  PATCH NOTES

BUG FIXES

- Fixed the bug with Wendy which made her repeat your name twice after having
  sex with her.

- Fixed a couple dialog errors.

GAME CHANGES

- The entire story board has been changed with pictures and the blue text is gone.
Start a new game to see all the new stuff.

- The Dark Scorpion Entertainment Logo has been fixed and looks much better.
It's also been changed in looks.

- Toyota's map has been changed around a bit to open up easier walk
paths and more junk piles have been added.

- It will now remain day or night for a much longer time now.

- Resting will now remove any poisons or toxic you have on you.

- The locker on the 2nd level of Toyota has had it's items changed.
It now offers four pain killer bottles so players have some early healing to
  get them on their way.

- The price on all alcohol has been increased.  This will give the player extra
money if they don't need any molotovs.

- The slingshot has been revamped and now does a lot more damage.

- Players that just start the game will be asked by Wendy what kind of
dream they had. The type of dream you choose will give your character
a one time permanant bonus to a couple of attributes.

This sadly only applies to new characters so old save games won't get the
bonus.  However, you may want to start over to experience the game with the
  new skills and changes added.

Special thanks to Killer Wolf on Gaming World Forums for the great idea.

- Frankie will now reward more money for each quest you turn in.

- The mantis repeatable quest will now offer the same experience as the
  empty bottles.

- Frankie will only ask for 20 bottles and 3 mantis legs now.  The beer part was
taken out so the player could save them for molotov cocktails or some extra
  coins.

- Frankie now sells a book that teaches players how to throw a good punch.
This will give the main character a decent attack to use with his skill points early
in the game.  You can also get this book later on if you kill Frankie.

- Wendy now sells a first aid manual that gives the player another way to heal using
their skill points. You can also get this book later on if you kill Wendy.

- The world map has expanded and changed.  Lots of new enemies have been
added to give you a hard time. There is also a lot more battle backgrounds to
  change things up a bit.

- Mantis will now appear in more than 1 enemy pack and now will perform
a double attack once in a while.

- The system battle interface has been revamped and updated.
I took a couple hours on this custom system so I hope you enjoy it.

- Added more detail to the Rattler Caves.

- Poisonous Snake Bite will now do the damage it was intended to do.

- Added the option after making a certain item in crafting to remake that item
without going down the list of things to make.  This will let players fassion
molotovs of the same power level at much greater speeds.

- Added Boxes of ammo which will now let players hold 9999 rounds on them
without having to buy ammo for a very long time. The boxes of ammo can be
used in combat or outside of combat.  If your gun is removed in combat due to
running out of ammunition, these boxes of ammo will equip the best gun in
your main hand that uses that ammo type.

NEW CONTENT

-The story continues in the Rattler Caves and players should be amazed with
what they find and learn.

- Added new weapons and armor.

- Added GO! GO! DRINKS!  loaded with sugar to make you bounce off the walls!
You can buy these drinks from Sam and other places in Arizona.

- Added adrenaline shots which will restore your skill points.

- Added some gadgets.  One is the Speed Enhancer which increases combat speed
and also increases your speed on maps.

- Players can now make molotov cocktail 3.

- New enemies await that are the most challenging yet!

Alright, new review then.

The intro was better, the logo was much better.
The start was pretty much the same. I sold beer instead of handing it in this tim , I got 50 more gold from the bottles even though I handing in half the amount of last time.
I found 1 gun during my first hobo-search and then I found another 8 in total.
I tried to get some mantises. But I only found rogues. A lot of rogues. Rogues with knives, and always two and two.
Actually, I never saw a single mantis during the game. I ran around Toyota for like 30min without seeing a single one.
I didn't bother getting a slingshot this time. Got the hat and armour, sold my guns. Paid Rat, bought both venom and toxic cure(couldn't remember which was which) and then stacked up like 30-ish painkillers, 5 medkits and bought the two skills available.
I headed town into the snake cave again. Didn't find any mantises here either.
Fought some snakes, got to the second level. I was happy when I could kill those a bit easier, the snake bite didn't horribly rape me.
Got up to the door where I saved my game in the last demo and went through.
Now, this place was a complete horror on lvl4, I lost like all my painkillers and antidotes in a matter of 15minutes. Those third snakes really made me think about my own logic "Be quick or be dead" or "Run to fight another day". They doubled attacked me for like 30x2 and the poison bite did some serious damage as well.'
So I pretty much looted bottles(found more guns thank good for the ammo) and those rocks. Found a machine gun in a corpse.
I got to the end, had 23 shots left, 2 medkits left and I was happy that I got two steak knives just in case.

I went through the door and was glad that there wasn't a boss waiting for me there.
I talked to the lady, got some healing. Saved my game and fought the boss. He literately went WoW rogue on me. He kept using that constriction skill that stunned me. And then when I finally had my turn ; "BAM" another one, lost my turn and died.
I kept trying at my current lvl(4&  5/6 to 5) but kept failing.

I noticed that she had a shop. Sold some crap and bought another machine gun.
Sold some more and could afford the armour. I cursed you Drak, for not selling any healing items.
I tried to beat the boss some other times but failed.
I had to admit that my dear lad Garret needed some exercise and lvl up.
I went back and forth and beat those third snakes, damn they hurt much.
I looted the rocks just down and found some more guns (incredible huh?)
I went back and slept, saved the game when I reached lvl 5 and then went back to the shop to sell stuff.
That's when I finally realized that you could scroll downwards...
So, I finally find a bunch of healing items, all the crafting items, ammo, ammo boxes, a better hat, the gadgets ect.
I start selling absolutely everything I have, bought new antidotes, bought painkillers, bought that hat and thne decided to get more money.
( I still failed to beat the boss...)
So I walk around and shoot snakes, get a lot of venom glands and in the end, got my combat gadget.
I equipped it, healed up and then fought the damn boss once more.
The battle was a bit more even now, I was at lvl 6, had my to machine guns, combat stats was 124(I think) and I had plenty of antidotes and healing this time.
The boss died, I lvled up to 7 and everyone(EVERYONE) was happy.
Talked to her, chose to learn about shamans. Made a facepalm when I realized that I had to go back to her later.
I made my way up, wish i had an escape rope and made it back to toyota to look for that poisoned newcommer.
Never found the guy, left some bottles and crap at Franky and went west.
Now, I still didn't find a single mantis.
Got past that message with creepy feelings and fought the new enemies. Damn they hit hard. But that's expected and appreciated since those snakes fell like timber when I left the cave.
So I encountered wolves, rogues, centipedes and then found the town of winston. But no one was there 'cuz that part isn't added yet.
So I listened to the game and saved my progress.
Now for a list of errors and such:
I didn't find any mantises. Ever.

The day and night system got odd again. It was lighter on the afternoon than morning and everyone was a sleep when it was as lightest(or something along the lines). It happened after the sex act once more. No idea what caused it but I began to wonder what was wrong when the weapon dealer wasn't up at daytime.

I don't lose ammo in some combats, I don't complain though, I like my ammo.

Couldn't find that refugee in toyota.

Some parts of the game was unreachable even though you had placed rocks and bottles there to loot.

And I think that's it.
Loved the update, keep the next part coming now Draky.

Head to the very far east part of Toyota and you will reach him.
There was a part of the map in the rattler caves that would not let you go west.  I fixed it.  There was only a couple stone spawns so you did not miss anything.

The day/night system needs work again and I will do some extensive testing on it this time around.

There might be some ammo glitches I will get around to that.

Try the path of the seer too sometime. ;)

If I might offer some advice theres a game call the burning grail. Im not sure if any of you have ever played it but its one of my favorite RPGM games, and it is also set in a post apocolyptic world with different guns and ammo. I would check it out if I were you I really like the way the ammo system is and theres nice pictures and things next to the items. I dunno if the download links still work but if not just tell me and I'll reupload the game.

RUINS OF WINSLOW -  Poor Winslow got hit hard by a nuke unlike Toyota which only got some damage.  This town will be available in the next content update.
Damages of places you will see in Aftermath depends on where you see craters on the world map.  Winslow is very close to ground zero.

TIPS OF THE WEEK:

Always remember to scroll down in shops. Players might miss very cool things they can buy.

GO! GO! DRINKS! will greatly increase walking speed for 30 seconds.   Scroll down to the very bottom of Sam's shop.

There is some powers you can learn later on - I won't spoil it for you that give you 1 minute faster travel speed.

You can get the speed enhancer later on that goes into the gadget slot and it increases speed.

Since you get a ton of money very easily I give the player a ton of **** that can help them.  If you have some spare money and don't know what to spend it on get some GO! GO! DRINKS! which will help you earn money faster if you like collecting bottles and stuff.

Sweet, so you played 0.4? What did you think and what did you become?

By the way people
There will be other things in Aftermath you can learn/become besides the mystical sub-classes.  You will also be able to learn these other things while still remaining
your mystical class because the main character is just cool like that.
AFTERMATH VERSION 0.5 will be out in a couple of weeks.  You will be able to use your saved games from 0.4.  If you have not played 0.4 you can download it at the Dark Scorpion Entertainment Website www.darkse.weebly.com or you can download it on the main page of this topic.

Wow pimps. Do you get anything when you have secks? Like a bonus on some random stat or something? I dont see any other reason to waste your money in it otherwise. on a game at least

This is not in the game yet, but if you have sex with a girl enough you get the skill of "Ladies Man" in your notepad.  When you get that skill you can level it up by banging girls.  If you get a really really high skill in "Ladies Man", you can get girls to give you information you would never
find out otherwise.   I have some plans to make this into some good side-questing amongst being good with the girls which is always awesome.  For the guys who think they
can skill up "Ladies Man" off Wendy alone, think again.  You will need to be a real baller to get it maxed.

UPDATED 12/23/08

SMALL FIXES FROM EARLIER RELEASE -

Frankie will now take your bottles and mantis legs again after you beat the bandit boss.

Removed the funky trap door from bandit building.

Man, you realease these so quick -- I might as well just wait a really long time and get myself a substantial amount of play, instead of trying to catch up every week.

I say if you took it easy, and just worked on the game for a while and released a big-*** demo, or hell even waited until the finished product... there would be a lot more hype around for this.

Play it, you should love this version.  You will love what I did with the end of it.

There is a lot to do and you can just use the save game you had before in the next version if you want.  I'm done with changing the dreams, everything works great now.
I also found that if you launch the game in packets you can fix bugs a lot easier then if I worked four or five months on the game and launched it.

Flashlight added into the game.  There will be a lot of dark caves in the ruins of Arizona and I wanted to make it interesting.

There will indeed be lock picking and much more.  Wendy gives the player a Notepad and Pen that keeps track of everything you have learned and their current level.

You like things that begin with "Ruins Of A" don't you!

I'll be launching 0.6 around mid Jan probably which will have some new content in older areas like Winslow.  I think after playing through the game for about six hours and doing everything you could as a shaman the game needs more content in some areas.  The town of Flagstaff will also be introduced in that content patch too.   I'm not going to super hype this updated version of the game right now because there is a ton of stuff I need to do on it first.

This was unbelievably laggy on my computer
It probably would've taken me 3 minutes to walk out of the house

I'm gonna restart my computer, and see if having less app's running would  help

I did, and dude, you have made one fun game
Only problem I have with it is the apparent lack of music, it makes the game kind of boring

????  The game has music for everything. Check your volume controls or something.. what the fuk.  Make sure your midi volume is turned up.  That really pissed me off because Aftermath is loaded with an awesome score.

The only place no music kicks in is on the world map which is instead a deep wind sound to give the player a creepy feel of the barren wasteland.

Just found out that MIDI volume was turned all the way down, that was the problem
I could tell that there was some music, but I thought that the wind sounds were drowning the entire soundtrack out
Sorry about that

Completely agree with lonewolf
Although I gotta admit that the whole beer bottle thing kinda makes it a bit easy
I ended up buying a couple of Beretta's before I even started killing Mantis's

Keep saving up your money, things get expensive guys.  Also, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Money is easy at first, you will notice it gets steeper the further you progress even with bottles.
It's not stupidly bad though, you can keep making a ton of money but it's not like everything is
handed to you.  Skill books, ammo, medicine and everything else starts eating your wallet.

Aftermath Version 0.6 Sneak Peak - Bandit Factory (South Of Winslow)

Bandits have been attacking the people of Winslow and bringing them back to this
strange place. It seems this factory has been flooded, but why do the bandits still stay
here? Tales of a great monster that travels with this group of bandits resides here.
What is it? How do they have control of it?  Find out in 0.6.

FYP

Yeah, that's true.  Frostmourne was originally in Warcraft III.  Anyways, that is still an idea of a special weapon I might add.  I don't know yet, it's still up in the air.  Since there is a lot of magical and mystical things in Aftermath, I might go a little further than that. We shall see.

Thanks much :)

The floors inside are flooded and there is a lot of mystery and puzzle to the place.  It will be a cool side quest to get some extra cash and experience, which was a lack point in 0.5 at this stage of the game.  I'll be adding other things too.  I might even add a couple new skills that you can train up on.  I was considering a disarming traps skill possibly, but I don't know yet.

I have an idea for your game. Put in some kind of stats that effect out-of-battle situations. Maybe be able to jump
certain gaps you couldn't before, break certain doors etc. Anyway, the game's looking great.

Resident Evil had some really cool puzzles and that is something I'll be aiming at implementing into some of Aftermath's dungeons.

I think this would be a great idea.  You should try Aftermath out to give you some ideas for your project.  Overall, I think you would love it since you're into post-apocalyptic games.

THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT GUYS!

ADDED THIS TO MAIN PAGE:

READ THIS FIRST

Aftermath is a game that takes the elements of Final Fantasy, Fallout and Shadowrun and rolls them up into an exciting rpg filled with science, spirits and even magical things. The world never new of these powers until the bombs fell.  This game is much different than anything you have ever played before and I hope you enjoy it!

I feel it's important to get this out in the open so people don't confuse my game with a simple post-nuclear game with nothing but guns.

IMPORTANT:  Please make sure you have something that plays .AVI files on your computer, so you can see the videos I have put in the game.  If you don't have anything that plays .AVI files you will get an error in the following areas.

#1 INTRODUCTION        -  Nuclear bomb explosion video.

#2 BECOMING THE SHAMAN -  Waterfall video.

#3 BECOMING THE SEER   -  Man begging for his life video.

Thank you,

Is there a new demo coming out soon or should I get the latest?

Get 0.5 bud.  0.6 won't be out till Feb or later.  Everything you need is on the front page.   Also, this demo is 6+ hours long now.
You will notice a slight lack of things during the time your in Winslow.  This is being fixed up with 0.6.  Besides that, it's a very solid content update and will keep you
on your toes. You will really like the new place I added at the start so you can get your money for Rat (if you're good) much faster.

Dirty Water in the pods.  This looks more in-line with the water below.  I figured the blue did seem out of place since the water is filthy.

I ripped the picture from a BGII screen and fixed it up to fit the tone and graphics of the map pretty good.  I may darken the pods a bit though
because I see where you're coming from.   Blue water/Yellow water below..  I might just darken em up a bit.

Awesome.

Thanks dude.

Have you guys played 0.5 yet?

I know everybody wants me to finish Aftermath, but I feel I can do a much better game and should move on to another project.   I just can't find it in myself to finish this game.. It's really goddamn hard.   What I really want to do is remake RoA on XP with the default system so battle animations are not such a chore.  I could have all the classes I originally intended and everything with that battler system and not worry about making 40 battle sprites.   I could still make the game a lot of fun too..  Yes, even if it's default XP which is not all that bad if done right.

I have not made my mind up yet about canceling Aftermath.    It's simply the fact I can't seem to find the energy to work on it when I really want to get another medieval fantasy game in the works.

I have decided that I will work on both Aftermath and my secret project with XP.   I think Aftermath has a large fan base and not completing or launching a new content patch will make some pretty sad.  I'm only human so give me some time to work on the games lol.    I'll do what I can to launch 0.6.
Title: Re: [DEMO] AFTERMATH - Content Update 0.5 is here and ready for download.

Here is a clip from the extremely long list of game changes coming in 0.6.   Version 0.6 is still in the works but I am working on it.  I think I'm going to take a good week of pure Aftermath game making pretty soon and finish it up for a launch.

GAME CHANGES

- Natural Run Speed for new games has been increased.  I decided to do this because several players were
saying they wish they could run faster.  This only effects new games, so make sure to start over again
if you wish to have a normally fast character.   The GO! GO! DRINKS!  and spells that increase speed
are still in the game.  Beware mixing these together with your normal speed being faster.  You might not
be able to control your character.

- Players will now have access to "Spirit Totems" after they complete a part of the game.
These totems will allow you to fast travel to other totems you found and give the player a way
to go back to towns they have visited without having to run all over the world getting into
  random encounters.
