Question
« on: October 31, 2009, 12:34:18 AM »
I was wondering if anyone could get me an easy to understand, easy to follow step by step tutorial as to how to make a fully functional (RM2K3) Battle Charset,I know about adding Sprites, and doing everything in paint, but what about templates? Or anything technical?

I'm pretty sure there is a tutorial floating around here on charas somewhere.

Anyway, basically - you get yourself a template.
Each section(line) is one animation in the maker. Each pose is 3 sprites.
They will be animated from the left to right. 1,2,3,2 and so on. So the middle pose will be shown as a bridge between the two.
Then you add pretty much anything you want as long as it stays within the border of each pose.
When you're done with everything - make sure that the background has the same colour everywhere.

Now there are two steps.
1. Save it as a 255 BMP in paint.
2. Download Irfanview and open the program. Copy the entire battlecharset from paint. Paste it into irfanview. Go to the tab "image" and then "reduce colour depth". Reduce the colour depth to 255, 200 or whatever you want as long as it's below 256.
Save the file from irfanview (if you used 2) and then open the maker.

Go to "import" and chose the file.
Double click the background during the preview and it's done.
Go to animations 2 and increase the amount of animations so you have a new battle set.
Fill in every named pose with an animation you've made.
Go to the hero page(or class) and choose the battlechar from the scroll-down list.

That's the basic thought of making them resources.
But there are a lot of spriting tutorials at least. Tutorials on how to make the pixel art in the battlechar.
