Awesome Windows Programs.
« on: June 26, 2006, 06:38:47 PM »
I havn't seen a topic like this...

Just post about cool programs for windows. (Or mac, but I assume most people here have windows..)

Some great programs:

Firefox Browser: The alternitive to internet explorer, it has great features and is totally customizable. Much safer and even faster.

www.getfirefox.com

Trillian IM: This is the greatest instant messenger I have used. It is made to connect to MSN, AIM, IRC, Yahoo, ICQ, Novel, Skype and others. Not only is it versitile, it is completly skinable and is great quality. Pretty and powerful.

www.trillian.cc

Winamp: The Alternative to Windows Media player, and severl others. This reads just about every type of media there is, has a great library system, and enough online media to keep you occupied for a very long time. It is fully skinable and comes with online media such as shoutcast radio and even TV. You can watch Family guy, movies and even Anime on this.

www.nullsoft.com

7zip: This is a free compression utility that allows you to compress and uncompress from just about every extension there is. Popular ones include .zip, .rar, .tar and .7z. .7z is a unique compression that allows the compression of files up to 7 times smaller, while rataining quality. It lacks a good interface, but is pretty reliable.

Feel free to post other ones.

Folder Icon Changer 2.5

Ever get pissed that XP and other Windows op systems won't let you change certain default folder icons?

ie My Music.....Docs within the start menu

Well I set out to find a solution and within minutes I hit this amazingly simple app

All free all the time
Download F.I.C. 2.5

StyleXP - great for changing your windows theme.

3d Object Converter - ever want to convert a 3d object file, use this.

DVD Shrink - Great for backing up your own personal DVDs (or someone elses :p)

Azureus - Great for downloading torrents.

Deamon tools - virtual cd drive, reads cd images, comes in handy.

CloneCD - to make CD image files.

HijackThis - Great for removing viruses and spyware, you just gotta be careful not to delete the wrong file or it'll screw up your computer (I did that once)

Pocket KillBox - Kinda like the windows task manager, but it shows more processes, and you have the option to delete the files instead of just shutting them down.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

Ad-aware - Simple and easy-to-use yet efficient anti-virus program.

VLC Media Player - Same as Media player (still one of the best) and Winamp except it can play more extensions and works with multiple language and subtitle channels.

Liberty Basic - Easy but powerful programming language for windows.

RmRecker - Change the credits screen, glyph and icon of any rm2k/3 project with a few clicks.

Azureus - Download whole folders of movies illegaly.

Bearshare - Same as above except it downloads files, not folders.

Firefox is awesome, but it sucks when it comes to printing stuff. I just hate it.
