Minor things for a game
« on: October 10, 2007, 03:48:29 PM »
I'm working on a game right now, with the plotting all done, but I still need some ideas for how to accomplish the details.

A large part of the game will involve finding specific items needed to theoretically save the day. (They won't work, but we won't tell the heroes, right?) The thing is, I want the items to stand out enough for the player to find them but not so much that it's obvious where the things are. They're supposed to look like everyday things that most people wouldn't notice. Any ideas for how to identify those?

Also, what kind of attacks would a statue imbued with the spirit of Walt Disney have? It's a random boss for the game, but I was drawing a blank as to what he could really do...

Thanks for any ideas you can give me!

This would probably go in the games section.

Anyway, maybe a good idea was that these objects had some weird side effects. Obviously they can't be normal otherwise why collect them? So like maybe theres a pendent or something, and whoever wears it gets sick. So you hear people talking someone getting sick all the time, and maybe something like that could lead you to it. Or maybe theres a bed that never burns, and some guys house burns down, and what do you know, only the bed is left. Stuff like that. It might also be easy to have a 'book' or something saying what these things do, so you just have to listen to what people say about stuff and look at the book to see what it could mean.

Another thing you could do would be to just make a radar type thing that points you to the general location of the items, which would be kinda lame as far as a story goes, but it could work.

As for a statue with walt disney... Maybe he could summon disney characters to attack you? Like maybe he has an 'animate' spell which draws a character (lets say mickey mouse) who kicks you or something...

MOVED. You now have a game thread.

You could also hide 'em in plain sight; make them famous objects in the world. Say, an old dagger that was dug up one day and is currently residing in a museum. You could even make the characters visit the museum before they know about the objects, so the player is like "It was that dagger all along!!"

Other than that... Listen to Dragonblaze, his idea is fantastic.

I like these ideas, but I see I need to clarify some things that are going on in-game.
The game takes place in Disneyland and the heroes are both cast members there. The characters have sent them on a mission to undo a wish, and to do so they need "magic" items from each land. The items are things like "Rex's pull tab" from Star Tours, but I don't want it standing out so much that people instantly notice it.

And thanks for moving it. I don't know why I got all retarded about where to put it. Games makes perfect sense now that I actually think about it at all.

Oh I see, lol. In that case, I would just have clues lieng around somewhere. I don't know who rex is or what star tours is, but assuming star tours is a ride, and rex is a person, you could start by going to star tours and looking for rex, you don't find rex, but you find someone who tells you rex is at a differant place, maybe once you find that differant place, rex is there, but he lost his pull tag on some ride, so then you have to go to that ride and look around for it.

OMG, if he lost the pull tag that would be the best thing ever!

And yes, Star Tours is a ride, based on Star Wars. Rex is the droid captain who absolutely sucks at getting to Endor.

I thought of one, this one is in Disney World, though I don't know if in Disney Land. The hidden Mickeys.

Those are at Disneyland. In fact, those are in every Disney park, although Cast Members usually disregard them and the items are already chosen. Plus I have no idea how I'd put them in the game, really.

For clarity's sake, the items are:
a bread bowl from New Orleans Square (possibly to be changed for a gold doubloon)
the Golden Spike from Fantasyland
Minnie's cake from Toontown
Enchanted Fountain water from Adventureland
A FastPass for Splash Mountain from Critter Country
A stick of dynamite from Frontierland
Mouse Ears from Main Street (potentially stealing one of the cool old vehicles instead)
Rex's pulltab from Tomorrowland
