rgss.dll problem
« on: August 27, 2007, 05:50:17 PM »
Hi, I've just installed rpgmaker xp in spite of my system is win 2k. I know, it's strange but at first it worked. Then, when I opened rpgmkr the second time this error message appeared:

rgss.dll not found, etc, etc...

I've uninstalled and installed again, but the problem is the same.

I've had problems with DLL files before. Basically, you need them to play software on your computer. Windows usually has its own set of DLL files built in. In some cases, the software comes with its own set of DLL files when you download or install it.

Sometimes the DLLs are not there. In this case, you can download them. Search the internet for the DLL file. I recommend Download.com's search engine.

After you've found the correct file, look in your installed RMXP's folder in the C:/ Drive. Look for other sets of DLL files, and drop the new DLL file there.

I've never worked with RMXP before though, so I'm not even sure it has a place for DLL files...

It's here:

C:\Program Files\Enterbrain\RPGXP

(Whats surprising is that I used XP before 2k3, and I like 2k3 better.)

EDIT: Did you install the RGSS?  (Its the XP version of RTP)

It won't work without it.  (If legal version) When installing, Make sure to install both RmXp, and the other one called RGSS.  IF you don't it won't work.

(If Illegal Version) I believe its the same thing.

This might be the most obvious question, but maybe...are you using RmXp on a win9x or win2000?  It won't work if you do...only XP or Vista(maybe...)

Yes, I have win 2000 but it worked once! So it should work again, right? I'm looking for this fu**ing dll....

-EDIT-  found....and it works!!!!!   Thank you guys!

(however is a paradox that rpgmakerXP works on windows 2000, but I don't care about this, I'm too happy)

RMXP isn't named XP because it only works on Windows XP or anything. It's mostly just copying the different names Windows has had. I wouldn't be surprised if RMXP could work on Windows ME or Windows 98 if the user had the right files.

Don't try to use it on Windows 98 (Not the second edition!)... it doesn't work...
