Thor (and other comic book movies)
« on: May 06, 2011, 09:08:47 PM »
Just got back from seeing Thor, and I figured I'd see what everyone else thought of it.

Personally, I liked it. It was a bit more light-hearted than the other Marvel movies, though it could've used a bit more action and a bit less humor. Overall the acting was pretty good, and I liked that they just had older accents rather than speaking Ye English (which definitely wouldn't have worked), though there were a few points where it got a bit too hammy for my liking (but hey, it's the freakin Norse Gods, there's no way it can't be a bit too hammy). Special effects were impressive, especially for the Asgard scenes which were pretty damn epic. The 3D was unnecessary, but that's pretty much my opinion on all 3D so don't hold that against me.

Overall, pretty good. Not quite as good as Iron Man (which I absolutely love), but definitely second on the Marvel Studio movies so far.

As for the other Marvel movie, Captain America, I'm not too sure about that one. There was a trailer for it beforehand, but I just wasn't feeling it. It seems very gritty and almost a bit boring, but I don't generally care for that style anyways.

There's two other big comic book movies coming out too, X-Men First Class (which I don't have much hope for, considering X3 and Wolverine both sucked) and Green Lantern (which looks downright terrible, unfortunate because I'm a huge GL fan).

So that's one positive review for a movie that I figured would be awful.

That makes two that I've seen, so far.

I was hoping to see it this weekend with my dad but suddenly drama occurred, so that's not happening.

Honestly, I thought that it wouldn't be very good, but I was pleasantly surprised. But I can definitely see it as one of those "love it or hate it" type movies, so some people might not enjoy it as much as I do. I still think it's worth a watch though.

I've been hearing mostly good things in general and I'm probably going to take them to heart. After all, I didn't think Iron Man would be that good, and I was so wrong on that one that it hurts.

Does 300 fit in here? Since it was a comic before it became a movie.

Overall, most things that swaps from one media to another will be going through a bunch of changes. Like lord of the rings,  the Dead or alive movies, the Mortal Kombat, Mario Bros, Tomb raider ect.

I saw Thor and like it, too. Casting was great, special effects were great, and the plot holds your interest. I personally enjoyed Thor on Earth more than Thor in Asgard, because watching an overmuscled guy going around saying "THIS MORTAL BODY GROWS WEAK, I REQUIRE SUSTENANCE" is freaking hilarious.

Some people in my group thought Jane's falling for Thor so quickly was a bit unrealistic, but a friend of mine pointed out that she's falling for him on two levels: one, he's hot; two, he's the culmination of her life's work and scientific passion. Who knows if the relationship will work out, but the attraction is obvious.

****. I hate when sudden drama occurs.

As for the movie, I'm planning to watch it but at the same time I am becoming extremely lazy.

also, studying.

But mostly lazy.
