I've never been able to get into Team Fortress.
To be honest it bores me.
I've never been able to get into the whole team based combat stuff in games.
Hell, even when I was playing WoW I couldn't get into PvP. And that was years ago. Pre-WotLK.

That's just you mate, when I picked it up for the PC I was in the top 3 of the match nearly every match, and I use the standard weapons. Skill > gear.
On top of that, many of the better players out there still use most of the stock gear. You're just bad, my friend.

I guess this is the point where I'm supposed to change my name to xxSaiKar|FuckDaBears|xx and rant about some leet ****, but I only played for like 10 minutes. I was just trying to learn the classes and a bit of the maps, but that's obviously impossible when you die every 30 seconds or so.

You could always just be support. I find it more fun when I'm helping other teammates score kills rather than scoring my own.

30 seconds is pretty awful. What are you doing? Running in, guns blazing?

Same here. Always been more of a solo player.
I mean... I do like team based objectives, but I prefer when I can go solo and still help my team.
I did go PvP when I played WoW, though, but I pretty much always tried to do my own things while still helping the team.
But never expect me to tank, heal or buff... or anything of the likes. I prefer to help my team indirectly.

As for Team Fortress 2, I have the same problem as SaiKar.
I'm just not good at this game and I can't see myself enjoying it... but I haven't played it much.

Well, yeah!
Ok, well, that's... Actually, that's what you're supposed to do. But you need to pick your moments, stick in a group, and know what the hell you're supposed to do with your class.

If you see:

  • Cluttered Hallway
  • Objective
  • Turrets

You should know what you're about to do.

  • Scout - Take the path less traveled. You have speed and a double-jump on your side, so don't be afraid of taking the path less traveled. Your low HP and close/mid range loadout means you want to try for a one-on-one fight whenever possible. Jump and zig-zag in combat to throw off your foe's aim. You scattergun is best up-close, and its spread means you can be a little off while aiming, and still do damage.
  • Soldier - Find cover near the action. You can take pot-shots with your rocket launcher at high-traffic areas and groups of people to maximize your damage. Aim for the mid-range targets, as your projectiles move slowly. Aim for their feet to capitalize on splash aiming versus aiming at the body, which is all-or-nothing. Your slower movement is countered by your ability to rocket jump (aim at the ground, jump, fire the moment you leave the ground), which lets you get to hard-to-reach places. You can still be very effective in open combat, but be mindful of your surroundings. The splash damage from your rockets can cause some damage to yourself if you fire it from too close.
  • Pyro - M1+W. Seriously though, hide behind corners to try to get the jump on somebody. Your flamethrower is brutal, and has a lasting burning effect, but you're no good past close-range. Don't try to fight near water, for obvious reasons. Use your shotgun to fight at mid-range (they're not perfect, but they'll do the job). Most unlocked axes will gain massive damage bonuses if your target is on fire. You can also right-click to fire a burst of air, which extinguishes friendlies who are on fire, reflects enemy projectiles (grenades, rockets, arrows), and can even throw enemies around. With practice, you can set a foe aflame, juggle them into the air, and finish them off with an ax strike. Lastly, if you see a teammate acting suspiciously (following in somebody's footsteps, running the wrong way, hiding out of the way, or eyeing an Engineer's structures), shoot him with the flamethrower. If he ignites, he's a Spy. Kill him.
  • Demoman - Place sticky bombs somewhere important (objectives, high-traffic halls, etc.), wait for enemies, and right click. You may need several bombs to kill a foe, but if you have them right at your opponent's feet, it's an easy kill. Try to put them out of sight, since they can be blown away by a Pyro's air blast, or shot and destroyed by a bullet-type weapon. Try not to get right into the fray, as the grenade launcher is harder to use in close-combat. Like the rocket launcher, try to land explosives at an opponent's feet, and try to aim for groups of people. much like rocket jumping, you can sticky grenade launch. This can be a little more dangerous, so practice is advised. PROTIP: Hold down the fire button when using the sticky bomb launcher to increase its firing range. The longer you hold it down, the further it can go.
  • Heavy - Find a Medic, hold right click to keep your minigun spinning, and fire at anything you see. Walk over enemy corpses and ammo boxes to refill your ammo counter, because Sasha will eat up all your bullets, and fast. Watch your back; a Spy may try to take advantage of your slow movement speed and wide back. You have the most health of any class, so don't be afraid to venture out into the fray. Keep in mind, though, that a large group of sticky bombs, or a fully upgraded sentry turret can be quite dangerous. Shoot sticky bombs, and engage turrets from beyond their effective range. If a Medic Übercharges you, go where you can do the most damage. You have ten uninterrupted seconds of complete invincibility. Try to destroy sentry guns. Lastly, watch your Medic. He's vulnerable while he's healing you, so you need to protect him from any nearby threats.
  • Engineer - Build a dispenser somewhere near the front line, but out of the way. Find metal (ammo boxes, dropped weapons), and build a sentry near the dispenser. Continue to collect metal (the dispenser also produces metal), and hit the structures with your wrench to upgrade/repair them. You can also hit them to make them build faster. You can build a teleporter entrance near your team's spawn point, and an exit near your dispenser and sentry turret. Stay at your buildings, and keep them safe. Hitting a building with a Spy's sapper on it destroys the sapper. Be fast, as this quickly damages the building, and disables it while it's attached. Watch for any suspicious persons, and attack them on sight. Anyone can be a Spy, pretending to use your dispenser. Only a Spy and yourself will clip with the buildings; all others will phase through them.
  • Medic - Heal anyone who calls out for assistance. Don't try to get into a fight, since you're a supporting class, not a fighter. Find a Heavy, heal him, and don't stop. After a while, your Übercharge will be available. Right click to use it, but choose who and when you want to do so carefully. It lasts ten seconds (with the default medi-gun), and provides complete invincibility. Other versions exist, and have different Übercharge effects. Watch for Spies, as they will try to kill you and your Heavy.
  • Sniper - Stay in the back, watch for an easy target (or other Snipers), and aim for the head. If you wait a few seconds while aiming, your weapon will charge up and deal the most damage it can. While aiming, a red laser dot can be seen by other players, showing where you are aiming, so be mindful of where you look. A fully charged shot can be fatal. Watch for Spies, since you won't see them coming while aiming down the scope.
  • Spy - Disguise yourself as an enemy as soon as possible. Never disguise as a Sniper, Engineer, Scout, or Medic. Snipers and Engineers don't leave their posts, Scouts run faster than you can, and Medics who don't heal are suspicious. Never follow your target's movements exactly, and cloak to sneak behind your targets. Your strikes should always be hit-and-run. Upon killing a target, hit your quick-disguise key and cloak to escape danger. Try to find secluded targets. The knife is useless for anything other than the instant-kill backstab, so use your revolver if you get in a bad spot. Ammo will refill your cloak, so walk over some to keep it going longer. Don't go after Pyros or Scouts, since one will likely set you on fire, and the other can easily outrun you.
  • General - If you know somebody is a Spy, hit them with a melee weapon. They typically do enough damage to kill a cloaked Spy outright. Pyros do not burn. This makes it easy to identify a Spy, and it means that a Pyro can fight another Pyro at reduced risk. The flamethrower will still hurt, but the lack of burn damage means it isn't as effective. Level 3 sentry turrets are brutal, so never try to engage them directly. Explosive weaponry does the most damage to them, and a handful of sticky bombs can spell disaster for an Engineer nest. Learn the levels by playing on an empty map and exploring. Watch out for unlockable weapons. They aren't particularly better or worse than the stock weapons, but they can have some surprising special abilities.

So you basically do nothing?

I tend to support my team more than working towards my own gain so to speak. In wow I can throw away an instant 50% cost healing spell on someone with crappy hp if the healer is having a hard time instead of shooting an instant 50%cost lightning bolt at a foe. Hell I've been forced into tanking 'cuz the current dumb warrior tank didn't know the boss fight and failed towards the end.
Although I'm looking forward to Diablo 3 so I can play with people but don't care a shizzle what they are up to as long as they don't die.

Killing stuff, capturing flags or defending them can be very useful, you know. Many, many times I helped my team by being the only one defending a flag or getting it back. I guess "or anything of the likes" was kind of.. very misleading indeed. Bad choice of words. Terrible, even. I blame tiredness.
Pretty much, just don't expect me to tank, heal or buff. Being a Rogue at least was a very good excuse for this.
I did buff and heal some times on my Paladin, but most of the time I just try to kill stuff.

I'm just not a very good team person in most games... but I'm still trying to be helpful.
I won't just run around doing nothing but killing, but I won't try to focus on my team mates' survival. If they die, it just means the enemies are focusing on them instead of me, which is god for my own survival.
I'm kinda like a useful jerk, yeah. Assuming I'm not too bad at the game. Which unfortunately seems to not be the case with Team Fortress 2.

Well, I finally played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (SoC and CoP).  Sadly enough, I had wanted to visit the Zone even before I was aware of these games...
