Fraxy thread!
« on: May 18, 2008, 03:53:58 AM »
Yeah, Fraxy. Little fun shoot 'em up that I discovered about a year ago. Basically, at its heart, it's a game where you are constantly pitted up against bosses from files put in your enemies folder. The bosses can be anything; spherical big ships that float around and shoot lasers, a fleet of small ships, or just a bigass destroyer or whatnot.

What more, is that you can create your own bosses in this game, which is primarily why I wanted to start up this thread; people here can create and share their bosses with everyone else, and we can each play 'em in game. There are other user creations for the game, such as 'try' files or custom graphics, but each of those are quite a bit more complicated than just boss creation.

So what do you need to get started? Simple; just download the game from this site:
http://mokeron.hp.infoseek.co.jp/zg/fraxy_main.html
I suggest getting the 1st and 2nd files listed there; the 1st is the base game files, while the 2nd offers alternate background, try, and bosses that have english names so that its easier to browse through them. The base game package includes everything you need to get started; the game file itself, and the boss maker.

I think that's all the explanation needed. Oh, and if you want to try out my creations, check out my page over Here. Has a pack you can download that contains all my bosses.

Yeah. I actually meant the 2nd download link along with the 1st; the 27.7 kb fraxy_eng zip file. Anything that's an LZH is a Japanese compression file, and not really meant for us silly Americans. :p

I. LOVE. THIS.

I need to get used to controls. Warning Forever is so much simpler, which is saying something.

Really? I find Fraxy to be simpler. Probably because I'm more used to a mouse/keyboard control scheme... PC shooters and stuff, y'know.

And yeah, I've played WF as well. At max, I've gotten up to like level 13 before dying.

By the way, you can configure how you control the game with config.exe. Allows you to change to two different keyboard configurations:

Keyboard1: Directional movement aims your ship, using the Direction Lock key keeps you pointed the same direction while you move, instead.

Keyboard2: Aiming is controlled by spinning the ship with the Turn Left and Turn Right keys.

However, both of these are a bit inferior to simple mouse... I don't know what you think, but is it the actual controls you're having a tough time with, or is it simply getting used to them?

My max is 19ish. I lost because my dad kicked me off <_<

Yeah, I'm a straight keyboard man with my shmups, MAME and such. I do have a GC/PS2/DC usb adapter though so I may try that. C stick to turn, R to fire, stick to move, L to boost. Could work I'd say.
