Need help importing sprites on Rmk3
« on: August 06, 2009, 10:42:08 AM »
Yeah, I am having trouble importing sprite sheets into rmk3. I use the proper size 12 set sprite individual picture, I upload it to Gimp photo editor and put 7 more 12 sprite chars with it making a total of 8. when I finish the image is 288 x 256 and the background color matches for everyone. I then go to the menu that lets you upload char sheets. It wont let me put it up and says invalid color depth. I tried png and bmp files. Im not sure its vista or not. If it is then ill just use xp.

It's GIMP.
I think there's an option to set it to a different color depth, but I'm not sure.

Well, there are a couple ways to fix this:

Stupid Way:
Open file in MS Paint, save as, keep the name but set the type to 256 colors or whatever, overwrite. Terrible quality ensues.

OR:

Smart Way:
Get Irfanview. http://www.irfanview.com/
Open in Irfanview, Image, decrease color depth, turn off dithering, hit okay, save, overwrite.

EDIT:
I don't know anything bout Gimp (if thats all you got). sorry. I prefer Irfanview.

I use Ifranview 4.00.

It's free and has some photoshop-like filters (blur, sepia, find edges what-have-you).  If you turn off the Floyd-Steinberg dithering, there should be a minimal loss of quality when going 24-bit to 8-bit.
