Alchemy/Item Crafting Tutorial :D
« on: January 10, 2012, 02:29:39 AM »
Yes. Back-to back tutorials. By Yuffit. Im full of ideas.
But that is irrelevant to the main topic, purpose, and procedure of this post!
This post will teach you how to make an item crafting/alchemy system using an item, and a LONG *** common event!
But it's pretty simple.
And, i dont need images because I know everything! (involving this tut that is.)
Now.
Create an item, call it "Alchemy Set"
Make it a switch. It activates switch called "Alchemy".
I have 3 currently used ingredients. You need this common event, one line for each item: (Parallel Process)
Variable Oper [0100 Healing Herbs] set, Healing Herb possessed.
Variable Oper [0099 Magic Herbs] set, Magic Herbs possessed.
Variable Oper [0098 Vials Held] set, Vials possessed.
Above means, to have a variable for each ingredient you want to be able to use in your alchemy. This is absolutely necessary, unless you only want a maximum of ONE of each ingredient usable, which makes it really tacky.
Now, for the second common event, i decided to put a picture because it is painful to type it out.

That shouldnt be hard to complete. Unless you cannot grasp the common concepts of Patterns, and Common Sense. If you lack the ability to comprehend such concepts, i will be glad to help.
Now, just put the Alchemy Set in your inventory, and the required ingredients, chaa! Just use the Alchemy Set whilst in the menu, the game should close the menu, and start the alchemy messaging hooha!

And that was another novice cheap and sarcastic tutorial! by yours truly, Yuffit!!

Kbainow go tell everyone how incomplete my tutorials are.
Below contains information you might not give a damn about!
Oh. P.S.:
I am currently developing this system out, and will make a nearly-alike one, for smithing!
What does this mean?
It means i will be pumping out a HUGE tutorial on Alchemy, Smithing, and the alike systems!
What else? Well. If you even care. It will be in Tales of Misaba. Still in the initial stage, but this project is one that i plan on completing! you really would be surprised. i have a compsotion notebook that im writing the entire base storyline on. And im developing different systems to be used in the game. spesul stuff. and i would love some support from EVERYONE on the internets, for upon it's release say.. 4-12 months from now, IT WILL BE RELEASED TO TEH PUBLIC! but really. I want this project to be a big one. Well.. Ciao for real now everybody! :D
Another useful beginning style tutorial.  Although, In a tutorial, you want to be as specific as possible.  So, explaining why you are using a command and how it is going to work usually helps, too.  Something you should consider before you get your bigger tuts.  Talking about what happens when the player doesn't have enough *blank* to make this or cancels an option is something you might want to add as well.

Aye, without seeing the rest of that event, I don't know if it's any good or not. One thing I'll say right away is that pictures would work nicely here - an image of the necessary ingredients for each potion appearing at the side would feel very professional.

Or you could make each item in a faceset and add the faceset to the next message. Might also want to give that faceset a transparent background so it looks like it's an actual icon. I've done that for a sushi minigame some time back.

Also, I personaly like it better when you just pick a bunch of ingredients together and watch what you get instead of picking the item you want and see the needed mats. But that's just me. It also takes a bunch more effort to make it since it gotta remember what ingredients you threw into the pot so to speak. But picking from a list is the kind of stuff you add in towns, gives you an actual reason to return.

Yeah ill try using more pictures more often... but i simply LOATHE going to photobucket every time i want to post a pic and going through that stuff many times.. but ill try and make more in-depth tutorials and stuff.

I CAN edit this thread, and make it a nice step-by-step, easy to follow, explanatory, an in-depth tutorial on the whole item crafting system, and ways you can improve on it, but it will take awhile to complete, so like.. ill be editing the thread every day adding more steps until its done (oh my smithing process im making, involving like 90 items, is taking PHOREVER, but it is really nice. i like the idea of having an inventory item that you can activate that opens up the smithing system.
