Charas.EX possible change
« on: May 04, 2005, 08:04:45 PM »
Dear users,

As you might know Charas.EX is going trough a sort of halt. This is because PureBasic is sort of limited, too limited to actually add new functions. This is why I come with this.

I'm thinking about changing Charas.EX to Delphi. This will bring some advantages, but also some disadvantages:

Advantages:
- Everybody with Delphi can work with it.
- Support for facesets and battlechar sets in one program.
- Hopefully better updater.

Disadvantages:
- The old resources as well as the old characters won't work anymore.
- It might take a while to actually make.

This is where I need your help.

First, I want to know if you want this switch, seeing as it can bring other advantages (but also disadvantages).

Also, if the thing gets trough, I need some help with programming. I don't know much about Delphi, so if you would be kind to help in any way, it is apreciated.

Also, I need a different way to pack the resources. The original Charas.EX uses the packing function of PureBasic. If anyone is familiar with this method and can emulate it, or even just take it from PureBasic, please tell me.

Any help is apreciated, except of course resources, since we can't work with resources if it is not yet implementable. Or something like that.

Thank you for your time,

Gary

sounds good!

can't help with the coding because i've only started programming a year ago, and the college i'm in has only taught us how to use C and Java.

this semester, we're gonna be dealing with Visual Basic, or Visual C++.. i donno.. but is Delphi the better choice? dont really know much in which code language is better cuz i'm just a beginner, so u tell me =P

In C++ it's better, it has way more possibilities, but Delphi is the next best choice for me, since it has an easier GUI builder.

I don't know anything about PureBasic or Delphi, but if it will make Charas.ex a lot better, then I'd like the switch! :)

Sounds good, the advantages are more than the disadvantages, and if someone want's the old charas just download it now and put in a seperate folder.

GUI = General User Interface. It's like, almost every visual thing. Think about buttons, scrollbars, titlebars, etc.

C++ doesn't have a standard GUI builder, Delphi does. However, because of that, Delphi too can be limited. C++ is harder, but can do more.

since that's the case, do u know how to program Visual Basic? in your opinion, is VB more limited than Delphi? u'll find out why i'm asking all these later =p

I never programmed in Visual Basic, but from what I heard VB is much better than Delphi.

VB IS much better than Delphi. The GUI builder is the simplest and best thing I've seen, and it's not really limited by it at all.
