The MPA has banned tablature

Yes, guitar tablature has been banned from the internet. Now if you want guitar tabs (legally), you'll have to get them from an official tab book. Already, one of my favourite sites for tabs, http://www.powertabs.net is down, and I'm sure many are to follow. Tabs are very important, especially to beginning guitarists. How will they learn the songs of their favourite artists? How will they learn the riffs that are now dubbed good for learning? Think of the poor kids, who can't afford to buy tab books. Another things, internet tabs, for the most part, are user-submitted. That means that it's the work of someone, if not the artist. Also, Powertabs had many un-official tabs that members had composed themselves. Those tabs shouldn't have to suffer. I would like to bring something to attention. A quote from the link at the top of this post.

"Unauthorised use of lyrics and tablature deprives the songwriter of the ability to make a living, and is no different than stealing."

Hmm.. so this "songwriter" with their 12 mansions, 50 cars, and yearly income in the millions can't "make a living"? I can understand the thing with MP3s, but since I can play some Metallica songs, poor James is gonna be lstanding in the unemplyment office? I think not. In my opinon, this is by far the stupidest action taken by the government (err... in modern times that is). Knowing a song effect the songwriter in no way.

I guess with the Patriot Act out of the way, the government has to find new ways of limiting us.

I agree with you all the way. I hardly ever have money to buy 30-40 even 50 dollar tab books.I have tabit on my computer and now if i want another song to learn that is by zeppelin i have to buy a book. What if some of these people only want to learn one song? Now they have to buy books and basically waste  money on a book with 30 songs and only play 5.

Hey genius. It's not the government. Actually take time to read the article a little and you'll see that it's the Music Publisher's Association, a non-profit(granted, there are several ways a non-profit organization can make money), independant organization.

Sorry, you can't be a rebel this time. Try again later.

Well, well, well, looks like all you poser guitar players out there that can't read sheet music or pick up a song by listening to now wont make anymore gay bands(good charlotte, simple plan, everyother gay band on the market) I've never had to use tablature, and even when I started i just listend for a song, give it a try its not that hard. And if you cant do it, then you shouldn't play guitar poser fag.

You aren't the king of music. You might think you are, but you're not. Almost everyone can read sheet music, but tablature just makes songs easier and quicker to learn.  And you can't just learn thrash metal or power groove by ear. So STFU+GTFO

Seth: Do you want a ****ing medal? Too bad, no one cares. Maybe other people aren't as good as you claim to be, but that doesn't mean they're suddenly horrible and you are the standard for guitaring. Hell, I admire those who can play guitar at all, tabs or no tabs - they're better than me.

Dude... get over yourself. Just because you supposedly learn differently than other people dosent make you better. We could learn the same song, me by reading tabs, and you by ear, but we'd both be able to play it equally. Virtuosity isn't in learning method, it's shown through practice of skill. And some music is not possible to learn by ear. Like Vai, or Satriani. Hell, I'd like to see you take on some Slayer solos by ear.

Dude,  I know like 30 by steve vai is from ear, and I learned the mountain song by satriani by ear. And Viruosity, is obtained by the work of the music, people say Kurt Cobain was a great guitar player, yet almost everything he wrote is basic 3or4 power chord riffs. And slayer solos are easy as hell to play, all being in Em or Am.

EDIT: sorry, but Seth, you're way too damn cocky and it's pissin' me off real easily.

Yeah, well, you're a little too cocky for me. Kinda set me off. It's not always about how simple it is, it's about the sound. If you can listen to it over and over, and not get tired of it. I hate it when some random song makes it in the #1 spot for a week and all it is is some fancy beat and a single, no harmony little ditty or flute in the background, prolly took like, what? a night? I'm not saying this is you, seth, just saying that can get me revved up.

meh, w/e. If you wanna argue, pm me or something. I don't feel like seeing another one of Asakura's threads gettin' locked.

And abotu the poser thing, i call you that otu of anger. I don't know you, you could be lying to me. I could be lying to you. The internet is too vague, but we all trust it so willingly.
