Lemuria: The Four Winds
« on: March 01, 2006, 03:47:31 PM »
Basically, this is going to be an old school RPG. Normal, turn based battles and all that. The only difference is, Lemuria is both in the RPG category, and the Adventure category. Lemuria isn't just about going around, fighting, levelling up and all that. It's also about challenging the player's thinking abilities to solve puzzles and decipher riddles in order to progress through the game. The game will be divided in various chapters, and will have the occasional fork in the storyline. It will also have -tons- of side quests and mini-games, such as the ability to later on buy a house, and buy upgrades for it. I'm also planning on having fully functional Frogger and Pac-Man clones, as well as an ore mining system.

I'm looking for people to test the game out for bugs, so if you'd like, download the game ( http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z0SIRROW ) and email me at tenkanpro@hotmail.com with any bug reports or suggestions.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Storyline: Hundreds of thousands of years ago, when mankind were still forging tools from rocks and animal bones, two civilizations sat high above all the tribes. These civilizations, of Atlantis and Lemuria, were highly advanced, having strange technology that exceeds even what modern day humans have. But suddenly, a war broke out between these two civilizations, and in a little under two hundred years, both islands sank to the bottom of the ocean. These stories are entertaining to tell, but they're hardly acknowledged as truth anymore. Such tales are put in a category, along with bodunk serpents, alchemy, and magmatics. That is, until strange occurances begin happening all over the ancient planet of Vatlah. Now, an evil beyond all evils is rising from the depths of the ocean, bringing with it the perpetual enslavement and ultimate destruction of all life on Vatlah. The prophecies speak of five heroes uniting as a force against the growing evil, but not even destiny herself can forsee the outcome of this last great battle, and to prevent the end of the world as they know it.

It's not really historical stuff. It's just a story I made up based on the legends of Atlantis and Lemuria, and threw them into a fictional world.

Heroes of prophecy.... Atlantis is a highly advanced city surpassing even us.... bah. While Atlantis was an advanced city, you have to place it in the context. When the legends of Atlantis first arose having indoor plumbing would have made you God.

Upgrades.... for a horse? Do you like.... shove stuff up its ***? "Here pony, I got you a rocket. Is this a plug in port? Let's see" *FACE FULL OF HOOF!*

One problem...
No files in the folders. None. Couldn't you just zip the file?

Mythologies, at least when put into video games, don't really have to adhere to a strict context. Look at the Final Fantasy series, which makes Odin look like some giant horned knight with a big sword, instead of Odin's traditional description, or Shiva's appearance (Shiva wasn't a woman in Indian mythology, Shiva was a male deity).

???

I think you must have read what I posted wrong. I said "house", not "horse".

As for the game, I'm not sure how exactly to properly make a Game Disk. Do you run the Game Disk Creator and select the Run Time Package option? Because even without the RTP, I've gotten the game to work just fine. Just run the setup and install it where you want.

The point wasn't that you didn't stick with the classics of the myths, but that you distorted the myths in the same way as every other game that has had one. Every game has Atlantis as a society advanced even by our standards. I was suggesting that maybe you make it advanced, but advanced for its time, especially if we were still evolving.

And I think I read the house thing wrong XD

Just go to the folder where the game is saved at, copy it, put it in a zip folder, and put it the same place you put the other one. *shrugs*
this looks really interesting! *drools at story*

I wasn't sure if there were supposed to be files in the folders. The game worked fine for me in a seperate folder, even without the files.

P.S.: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V195YU4Q

New file. I hope it works for you.
