A Sample of My Project
« on: March 25, 2006, 04:01:00 AM »
I really have no idea who even paid attention to my project and it's progress back when I had my own thread and updated regularly, what with all the games everyone is working on. I posted screenshots and all that nice stuff. The last progress I made that I must have considered important enough to date on my computer was 9/8/05. I do remember wanting to begin my battle system, but lacking the graphics for it. Perhaps its time I try my hand at pixel art.

From there I've been in limbo. I've since been revising my story quite a bit and have made some nice progress on that (still top secret).

Anyways, with Osmose making some changes to the General Programming forum, I thought it'd be nice to show any new programmers what I've done with VB.

The sample isn't that sophisticated and is merely what I am using to debug my code, but if there is enough interest, I'll create a nice little map with all kinds of scripted NPCs for you guys.

This project features:
~NPC AI - Roaming
~NPC Interaction
~Character Creator
~Working Inventory
~Day and Night (Not a gradual shift yet)
~Music (Not included in sample for size)

There are bugs present, of that I'm aware. The only major thing I can remember are NPCs walking through the player if timing is off. If you think you've found a bug, let me know.

Download My Project

What is not shown with this is the other side of my project: The Editors. I had to create my own map editor and item editor, which allow me to create and edit my map and item files. Its this part of my project that I love to hate.

P.S. checkout the celtic knotwork on the main screen, inventory window, and stat bars. Took me a week to do that on the computer.  :D

Thats cool rush. Do you know what language they teach? At my school I took Pascal (its a DOS compiler) and the next class taught C++ (Using Borland, another DOS compiler). But I've lost a lot of that.

I think after I graduate and get settle in a job I may go to a community college and take a class on C++ again, this time though I hope they use VisualC++.

Have fun in the class.

Damn, this is looking pretty sweet Drighton! I took a VB class, but we didn't learn that much. I believe I remember someone once telling me you couldn't make games in VB. I always believed they were wrong and now here's proof! Very good job so far. :)

it went really really slowly for me after creating the character, so I really can't judge it, sorry.

First, remember to press enter after typing in your character's name.
Second, the only option that should be disabled is the hair style. (L and R arrow keys don't do anything).

Bearing that in mind, would you still say there is a bug (specifically with the eyes and skin color option)?

Did the computer you were using have an onboard video card?
If not, any idea how much video memory you have.

Only things I can think of.
