Now yes, the RP aspect may be a bit weak, but at least it's not as unbalanced as you say.

It's still not role playing though, but a mere action game.

I like role playing games that actually involve some form of acting, as well as an additional rule set to unite the shared continuity of the role players.

I think role playing can only truly be done with paper, pen and a Dungeon Master.

Not 100% true...Well, the books say you must demand that your players follow the exact personality they chose for their characters...but thatīs not something really easy to do. My players, at least, have the word "kill" on the tip of their tongs, ready to say it whenever something moves, even though some are not agressive.

Thereīs no real roleplaying if you think that way. But I agree that MMORPG have NO role playing...I mean, except for WoW (that everyone knows the story), how many times did you even bother knowing the story of a MMORPG? I played Flyff for 5 months and have no clue whatīs it about!

MMORPG's are about gameplay and features. And "free".

It is in Omega Weapon's opinion that MMORGS are a total waste of time. Nearly all require a great deal of commitment in order to proceed further in the game and unlike single-player RPGs do not have an 'even flow' and combination of story line with building up your characters.

MMORGS are designed to waste one's time. Why do you think the companies collect monthly payments?

Now, we're all saying that MMORPG's are a waste of time here... but they aren't any diffrent from regular games if you think about it =/
We all seemingly "waste time" on some sort of game during the week... I just don't see the difference with MMORPGs. Yes, some you need to pay to play, but thats your choice to play them or not, other ones (free ones) can often be very enjoyable...heck, even better when one of your friends, or someone else from charas past or present plays too.

And btw, Almeidaboo, FFXI has a storyline aswell ^^;

If this is true good sir, then we have a serious differentiation of opinion.

MMORGS use the most colorful screenshots to lure one into a commitment which one will feel necessary to see through for at least a month's time. It is very deceptive and makes Omega Weapon perturbed that much gameplay consists of walking to and fro whereas single-player games offer more stimulation, be it in the form of majestic landscapes coupled with wonderous music which could never be used in an MMORG: It would get boring too quickly, which is why MMORGs with music must have lukewarm expressions of said art.

It is in Omega Weapons' opinion that serious MMORG players wish to socialise through something they may be proficient in: Dragonslaying or the like. This conclusion is not as large a logical jump as it seems to present itself as.

OK, as I said, I don't see the difference.

what you spoke of is a human flaw, being dragged into things, its not an MMORPG's fault if a human wishes to aspire in it. And yes, I do agree that it can get very boring, but alas, the same can be said on offline games, people usually try to get everything in thier favourite game, and yes, it will eventually get boring as an MMORPG does.

I am in understanding and in agreement with you, good sir, about most of your points and would like to bring my own up.

Single-player RPGs are not meant to become boring. They should be played once and at the discretion of the player of course. MMORGs fail because they did not anticipate the problem of combining socialising with gameplaying.

Imagine playing a single-player game, over and over, at a very slow pace and the only thing different is the people you encounter in the game.

MMORGs are unfair because only the most tenacious of players, those with no lives or jobs who can spend 16 hours a day building their characters, get to see so much more of the game and they should be restructed.

Not true. I play a copnsole RPG to see the boy kiss the girl in the end. MMO's do not have that.

Thatīs a metaphore for "ending", "point", "objective", "storyline".

Well, that's true.
The MMORPGs are all the same (most part of it). Always boring after a time.
But the best game I ever played was Neverwinter Nights, on a roleplaying server. Not for the graphics or anything, just 'cause of the roleplaying stuff. Was great.

What a shame, I lost my CDKeys, need to buy again. I really miss the roleplaying on NWN.

Hmmm, in a way I AM right there almeidaboo ^^;
Sure, the enmding will barely involve the mian character (you) but wil involve the people you've met, just like any other game.
Buuut, I see your point
