Question
« on: May 10, 2006, 10:22:01 PM »
I really do hope I am posting this in the right place...If not, I apologize.  And I also apologize if this has already been a topic, but when I searched for it, I couldn't find much information, just a couple requests for resources and game ideas.

My question is, how many people here actually use RPG Maker XP?  I'm considering trying to use it, but, I would like to get a review from the users.  I don't quite know if I would like to get it, and start a game, and end up being disappointed.

Thoughts, comments, sending me money, go:

RPG Maker XP is a great engine that is like RM2k3, but has Ruby Script to help customize games. Ruby Script is NOT required, but it's a "quicker" way to customize the game. The main problem is finding GOOD resources for it, so you might have to make your own or just work with the defaults.

I honestly have no problem making my own, regardless of how long it takes.  Except Chipsets, I may have to use the ones there...

I think I will make a game on the XP though, so, oooog's back in the RPG Maker business, yay.  I'll post about my game later.

The RTP chipsets for XP are really good, much better than the lower versions.

I for one absolutly HATE the rmxp rtp gfx. I find that the charsets are too small and just look childish, I don't know, I just don't like them.

Other than that, I like rmxp a lot more than rm2k3. You can customize your projects a lot more than with rm2k3. People complain about the battle system, but it only takes about 10 seconds to replace that with a better one. The only thing I don't like about the actual system is that it doesn't have a lot of the defult features rm2k3 has like face graphics and a few other things, though there are scripts you can download to add them, they're usually harder to work than they would be if they were just built into the system.

Anyway, I'd use it if I were you if you could get around the graphics thing.

I used to use rmxp, but I stopped because my compy crashed and I lost my game, I just decided to go back to my old rm2k3 game and get that done becuase I didn't have enough time to start a new game and finish it by time I wanted to move on from rpg maker to actually coding my games.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

Errr... okay... you mean : I like rmxp a lot more than rm2k3?

I prefer RM2K3. I don't like the battle layout and the Tile system of RMXP.

RMXP is great. Resources arenīt a problem anymore if you know how to look them up. And Ruby rules, enables you to make 100000x better battle systems than the other makers. If you really intend to work, itīs awesome.

I lub my xp. I lub ruby. I can use ruby on a mid level if I had more time I would be better with it. You can make the battle system 1 kabillion times better than the old rpg makers and makw the face sets full body facesets like I did with my old game.
There's just so much you can do with Xp. My first script I made was a night and day system that went off your comp's clock.
I also like the fact that I can make my sprites as big as I wish and make have more than 4 frames and move in 8 directions.
I shall forever lub xp...untill a new RPG maker comes out.
