DS vs PSP
« on: June 22, 2006, 08:12:37 AM »
It's been bothering me for a while. On the internet I often come across PSP fanboys, or whole sites that conclude that the PSP is the better, but out of all my interfriends (coolest word ever?) the amount of DS owners easily outweigh those who own the PSP.
Hell, out of all my IRL friends, only one of them AFIAK owns one of them, and that's a DS.

So I project to you, fellow Charasinites, what do you own?

DS!
Why?

There are alot of games that I like that are comming out for this handheld, and I like how the gameboy markets.

Games:

Final Fantasy III
NEW Mario Brothers
LoZ: Phantom Hourglass

And other game that I would like.

The only games I'd really want to play on the PSP are the new Metal Gear Solid they're making for it (the one that ISN'T card based) and the upcoming Cave Story remake for it. But my friend bought a PSP (And never used it, but still maintains that he doesn't regret it out of salvaging his pride), so I can just use his.

One thing: Why are people going nuts over the New Mario? It's exactly like the old ones with a few new powers. Redundant, if you ask me.

I don't have a DS, but I recommend it. There's a good share of crap on it, but the games that are good are GOOD.

Just to make sure, the thread is "what I own", not "which one I like the most"

DS definately.

The PSP's main advantage is graphics and you can mod it to make games and such (Think Sony: Personal Computer)

I have a DS. Even if PSP's graphic are better, I prefer DS for multiple reason, but I'll probably get one this summer...

A fact : Most people at my school have PSP... but they almost only use it for music or video or whatever...

The DS is better I believe.

Reasons:
More games available
More straightforward
Cheaper (In my area anyway)
Better battery life
Much more unique
Has internet and LAN capabilities

The PSP on average (according to 3 friends of mine who have PSP's) has a battery life of about 4 hours.  The DS that I have, and the 4 other friends I have to have a DS, all have a battery life that averages to about 12-15 hours.

The PSP claims to be better because it can play movies, music, and games.  Now, this IS a handy feature mind you.  Allow me to have my input.  For the cost of PSP, you could get a video iPod with more storage capability that is able to play more music, and movies (of the correct format of course).  As for the games, there has been only one game of the PSP that has intrigued me, and it still has many more months before it is released.

All in all, I believe the DS is much better.  But, keep in mind this is coming from a 15 year and counting Nintendo Fan (Playing Nintendo things since I was 1 :P).

My bro has a DS, and I wanna get a PSP. I personally believe that the DS is way better, but I wanna get a PSP so that we don't miss any good games that come out for it. I pretty much want a PSP for FF7 - Crisis Core, but there's a few other games that look ok. But as people have said... PSP is more a portable DVD/MP3 player then a handheld gaming system. It's likely the biggest flop of a system in this area EVER. I'm pretty sure that Wal-Mart has LOST money buying them, and I know Zellers has sold about 2, cause one of my buddies works at Zellers.

I never liked handheld systems because I'd just rather spend the money to buy systems and games that I could play on my actual TV instead of a puny little screen. So I would not recommend buying a handheld unless you're planning to go on a 3 day car trip or something.

Anyway, if I had to choose between a ds and a psp, I'd probably choose a ds. Though I think the psp is a better system, and it can play movies (handy if your in the car for 3 days), the games avalible for it are limited. I just don't see any games for the system that spark my interest. Better graphics and such doesn't mean anything unless the game behind them are good.

The DS on the otherhand has more good games for it, its more affordable, and you can play the old gameboy games. I was thinking about getting a DS the other day because if I traded in my gameboy advance sp, I could have gotten one for $55. So yeah, go for the DS.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

WARNING ^

DS does NOT, repeat, does NOT, play any games BEFORE Gameboy advance. If you have any GB or GBC games, do NOT trade in your GBA!

End Warning
