Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion
« on: July 02, 2006, 09:22:50 PM »
I recently began playing this game, and became addicted to it.  I later discovered that modifications for the game could be downloaded, i.e. weapons, races, classes, etc.  Well, I got a little carried away, and downloaded a large load of content and accedently downloaded a file that sorta screws up the game.  Now, normally, I would just go in and take it out to fix it:

1.)  I downloaded and installed in bulk, so I don't know what the file was that messed with the game.
2.)  I COULD go through each individual download folder/rar file to locate all of the custom content and remove it, but I deleted a few of them (by the way, a "few" means all.)

Here's where the problem is.

I had the grand idea to:
"Hey!  Why don't I just go into my Data folder and delete all of the content!"

Well, you can guess what happened.  If not, here's the details in a nutshell.   I deleted files that were important, but recovered some and the game is even "screwy-er" than before.  (My character is now comprised of  some freaky eye balls, a mouth, and a a yellowish..orange block, i.e. someone puked and decided to call it a color.).

So, what I need is for some kind person to help me locate the other important files, preferably someone who hasn't used mods, or if they have used mods, a person who knows what the base files are.

I currently have:
Oblivion - Meshes.bsa
Oblivion - Misc.bsa
Oblivion - Sounds.bsa
Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa
Oblivion - Voices1.bsa
Oblivion - Voices2.bsa
Oblivion.esm

These are the files that I believe are important.  I would appreciate any help in locating the other files, or if the files I have are wrong.   Thanks in advance.

I would PM bluhman about this. He's a big fan of the game.

If worst comes to worst, you would have to uninstall and reinstall.. But I don't know much about oblivion so I don't know. Although, a character made of crazy eyes and puke bricks sounds cool.. mind posting a screenshot?

Same thing happened to me once with morrowind. Copy your save files to a differant location, then reinstall the game. Move the save files back into your oblivion folder, and you'll be good to go.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

What he said.

If (un)installing doesn't work, download Regcleaner to kill the registry of the game and try again.

Yes. Yes I am. This doesn't mean, however, I know a dang thing about how the game works.

Meh, 2+2 assumption. Just like: I enjoy soccer, hence I also know how the game works.

Well, I discovered the problem, and the solution.

Problem:
Music and Shaders Folders were removed.

Solution:
Install it on another drive.

Lesson learned:
My brother is a jackass.
