New words for the dicitonary
« on: August 11, 2006, 04:11:43 PM »
Sylifious
adj.

Silly or nonsensible.

*note that this is a made up word by our votech drafting teacher, Bill Toles*

Mr. Toles theory is that because "ain't" got in the dictionary (a made up word) we can probably make up a word, spread it around, and get it in the dictionary. So use this word every now and then and maybe it will spread.

add your own words if you want.

Don't forget about "Muggle" (name for non-magical folk in Harry Potter)

I wonder if hobbit is in the dictionary? :blue-eye:

This sort of concept for a language was discussed in the book 1984. The idea of the language was to use prefixes and suffixes heavily to make the language less flowerly and more about simply communicating ideas. Like the word "ungood" instead of bad, or "doubleplusungood" to mean really, really bad.

The idea was that in a generation or two humanity would be so caught up with the concept of just using these types of words that they wouldn't even think in any other terms, and thus couldn't display any thoughts at all that the state (who controlled the language) didn't like.

Great book.

Well...I've seen,"vorpal," in the dictionary, from Lewis Carol's poem; Jabberwocky.

And thus, his vorpal blade in hand, he strucketh toward the Jabberwock. Snicker-snack! Snicker-snack!

I want a vorpal sword.

Hmm, my new word:

gibberschklinkelblaudgh

(gì-BERR-shiñK-EHLL-blâhj)

Definition:
Noun

An exclamatory phrase made by a fisherman when his fish escapes.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense!

That was terribly flawed.
His definition of "deny(ial)" in the first place was incorrect, making the rest of it void.
